Laughter: An Antidote to the Usual…

20/01/2011

“I like nonsense; it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living, it’s a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope and that enables you to laugh at life’s realities.” Dr. Seuss

Laughter: Look, we’re doing the best we can … under the circumstances!

Hot and Cold ~ by Roald Dahl
A woman who my mother knows
Came in and took off all her clothes.

Said I, not being very old,
‘By golly gosh, you must be cold!’

‘No, no!’ she cried. ‘Indeed I’m not!
I’m feeling devilishly hot!’

Laughter: An Antidote to the Usual BS…
Laughter is therapeutic and can help shift our mood; I’m always game for a good chuckle as it helps me gain perspective about life’s ups and downs… So, one of today’s DailyPost prompts is about laughter: Describe-the-sound-of-your-laugh… That sounds like a koan to me; the sound of a single, one hand clap. As I thought about all the funny things I’ve read and heard, it suddenly dawned on me that I had none at hand to share. Plus, some of them would be too risque for publication.

“If I were given the opportunity to present a gift to the next generation, it would be the ability for each person to laugh at himself.” Charles M. Shultz

Laughter: An Antidote to the Usual… Little Ms. Muffet

Little Boy Blue ~ by Darren Sardelli
Little Boy Blue,
please cover your nose.
You sneezed on Miss Muffet
and ruined her clothes.
You sprayed Mother Hubbard
and now she is sick.
You put out the fire
on Jack’s candle stick.
Your sneeze is the reason
why Humpty fell down.
You drenched Yankee Doodle
when he came to town.
The blind mice are angry!
The sheep are upset!
From now on use tissues
so no one gets wet!

The clock ticks, my head spins and I’m thinking, “find some funny stuff quick..!” Then I realize this “funny” venture ain’t fun after all. So I will call this my take-it-or-leave-it-Thursday post.  Above and below are three poems to make you smile or laugh. I’ve added some quotes to warm your heart. The charming picture of Mr.& Mrs. Welcoming RockHopper Penguin  and Little Miss Muffet are the best I could find.  If I find another, I ‘ll give it a try… What is the sound of my laugh..? Right now, it’s more a guffaw with some Urghhh tossed in. Oy vey! What makes you laugh? Do share!  Have a restful weekend!

“There is nothing in which people more betray their character than in what they laugh at.” Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Laughter: An Antidote to the Usual… A child’s prank

One fish two fish red fish blue fish ~ by Dr. Seuss
“From there to here,
from here to there,
funny things are everywhere.
“Oh me! Oh my!
Oh me! Oh my!
What a lot of funny
things go by.”
“Today is gone.
Today was fun.
Tomorrow is
another one.”

“May God grant you always…A sunbeam to warm you, a moonbeam to charm you, a sheltering Angel so nothing can harm you. Laughter to cheer you. Faithful friends near you. And whenever you pray, Heaven to hear you.” Irish Blessings
I’m ending the way we started, with Dr. Seuss. Hope your day was brightened with humor and good cheer, even if it was ever so slightly. Share a joke or a funny poem or limerick. The more, the merrier. Ta!

Positive Motivation Tip: Find moments to laugh… even when you can’t think of reasons why.

    I’m definitely smiling 🙂
But then, I always am after I read your daily post, Elizabeth.
Even when you begin by saying you don’t have much to say, you convey more than most people who write twice as much.
I loved the penguin pic! And the reinvented nursery rhyme about the sneeze was hilarious!
Humor is one of our saving graces and laughter warms the soul and heals us.

Great picture of the rockhoppers – also love Roald Dahl – how quirkily humorous his poem is! :o)

Thanks for making my day better and putting a smile on my face! The poems and quotes you shared added a perfect touch in putting sunshine in my dreary day.

I’ll try better in finding moments to laugh – even with no reason.

    Thanks for a great share!:)

I believe your rock-hopper penguins feel happy,
maybe as happy as the crocodile in the bath-tube, I’ve featured today … simple cartoons …

Another perfect post! You made my morning, perfect read to go with my morning cup of coffee. It still amazes me how the power of words can move the soul. Thank you for helping me start my day with a spring in my step a song in my heart and a smile on my face. Who needs the dreaded newspaper, when I got you! I’m ready to face the Friday rush! Woo-Hoo! Thank you! Keep them coming! Cute pic. Have a fantastic weekend!:)

The Charles Schultz quote is so true. My son did stand-up comedy for several years and he always said, “You have to laugh at yourself to beat others to the punch.” I love a good laugh. Sometimes I think it’s humor that’s kept my marriage together for 42 years.
    Thanks for the post!

Hysterical! The fact that you were over it is very funny!
And those penguins are priceless. Your tip? LOL!
It all helps as an antidote for the usual bs 😉

Hehe I like the look of those penguins 🙂

Oh jeez, I’m so self conscious about my voice and laughter.. I normally don’t notice it, and loves a good chuckle like the next person, but as soon as I think about it (or if I ever hear myself on tape) I cringe! I’m sure a lot of people feel the same way.. that they don’t necessarily sound the same in their head as they do on tape.. lol

I don’t remember who said it, but Laughter truly is the best medicine. It makes even the harshest circumstances seem a little bit lighter! Love the quotes…especially Roald Dahl and Dr. Seuss!

This is an awesome post indeed because laughter is so important to our well being in my opinion anyway. I always love to watch a comedy when I am feeling down or if one of my family members feels down. It truly does help the soul. Thanks for sharing.

The funny eyebrows on that particular species of penguin always makes me want to giggle. They just look so terribly silly. Laughter is so important for emotional wellbeing, it’s important to remember not to take too many things so seriously. Thanks for sharing!

Laughter is good medicine. My husband is a good one for realizing that…he’ll find humor and laugh at things no matter what’s going on around him.
