The call came at 5:30am one morning, school will be closed and the kids can stay home and indulge in whatever their hearts desired. “Can they come stay at your house for a change?” Phina asked the recorded female voice… “I mean, with all the school and property taxes we pay around here, we should be allowed a snowy day to catch up on our own stuff sans kids.” The voice clicked off, there was no one on the other end.
Phina got up from her writing desk, she’d been writing all night, and padded over to her kids rooms. She woke them up and informed them they could spend the rest of the day in bed… “No school today? Yippee!” they said in tired voices and went right back to sleep. On the other hand, Ken, her hubby, didn’t give a damn. He had to get to work at the postal office; come rain or shine, the postman always delivers. Especially when there’s currently snowfall in 49 states. I don’t know Ken or Phina but you get the drift… All that snow can get our juices flowing and the blogging goes on. 🙂

I looked out the window today and captured some shots from the heavy snow that fell all night. What do you do on a snowy day? Aside from the usual stuff people read about; catch up on paperwork & bills, read a book, watch TV, cuddle up in front of the fireplace, cook, dance, and on and on. Sometimes, the best advice is to catch some zzzzz’s or simply get creative. I have a fireplace I rarely use and the other things I do anyway; regardless of the weather. Snow or no snow, the show must go on… life continues and the clock keeps ticking away.

I figured why not get some shots and play around with the editing features that came with my Nikon camera. Behold the outcome above. If you like them, try looking at them with a frown smile on your face, you might see them in psychedelic colors… or not. If all else fails, consider taking flight and visiting one or more of the NYTimes recommended 41 places to visit in 2011

Beautiful photos, Elizabeth. So surreal. Here in Colorado, we have lots of snowy days…and when I lived in the Northeast, there were even more. 🙂 I love to be cozy at home, with hot chocolate and a great movie or book, while the snow is falling outside. I DON”T like having to drive in it. I think what’s most amazing about the snow is that each flake is unique…just like people!
I don’t enjoy being outside when it snows especially the snow storms we have of late… makes driving quite treacherous. 🙂

Good morning Elizabeth. I love the idea of advice falling like snow and being allowed to be intergrated gently. So often people bark their ‘advice’ at us and expect us to take it on board immediately whereas most times we need to allow ourselves space to mull over their words and retain the ones that speak to our hearts whilst letting go of the advice that doesn’t resonate with us. Great photos! You live in a beautiful place. BTW – how long does it take you to produce your daily post as you always include so many links, photos etc. At the moment, it is taking me an average 3 hours a ago to pull mine together. Enjoy snuggling in front of the fire and have a great day!

Yeah, I love the idea of gentle advice that comforts, and I also have to watch that barking pointer in my posts as I do bark sometimes… LOL! Thanks for the feedback.
It takes longer than I am willing to admit online. I am working on shaving the time I spend creating them while maintaining some modicum of meaningful content…
I must add that you should explore the magic of WordPress written in visual mode… try it as a lot of help is given through that mode including articles and other links… Of course, it’s important to check the many offered links that come up.
For instance, when I used the name Ken in my piece, it offered me a link to Barbie’s boyfriend Ken… I was really tempted to jump on it for humor’s sake 🙂

Hi Elizabeth! You’re photos are so beautiful. Here in our country, we don’t experience any snow day. Just rainy days and lazy days. But in those days when I’m just home, I try to get in touch with myself – music is usually a comfortable companion.

Beautiful pictures! We are the ONE state without snow. It was cold enough this morning (27 degrees), but there was no moisture in the air, so no snow. My husband did have a little frost on his window, though…does that count? Sending some Florida sunshine your way! Hopefully the children had a fun day out of school.
Lucky you in the state of Florida! We could use some to get our spirits up and get busy with the posts ahead of us. 🙂

It is beautiful to look at, but difficult to navigate. There are so many places covered in snow right now it’s amazing. Many who are not that familiar with the fluffy white stuff. I wish I weren’t so familiar.

I love snow! I can’t believe 49 US states have it all at the same time! The UK was pretty bad (in terms of what we usually get) before and during Christmas. It wouldn’t be such a pain if we actually dealt with it properly rather than hold up our hands and make out that nothing can be done.
Other countries prove otherwise!

i like the pink photo! it looks like candy to me… i’ve never actually had a ‘snow day’ before, but i like to imagine that i would put everything on hold and cuddle up in front of the fireplace and watch movies All day! life can go on… tomorrow…
Wonderful photos! The colors really make your mind wander beyond just the snow – color has such a huge affect on how we view things. I love experimenting with pictures and getting the “right” look – so rewarding!
