Persistence: Lights. Blog. Action!

11/01/2011

“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan “press on” has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.” Calvin Coolidge

Creative Persistence: Lights. Blog. Action!
Everyday, bloggers everywhere wake up pondering what their next 5, 15, 50th posts will be. Where will we find, in the recesses of our creative reserves, material to share with some modicum of enthusiasm? Some days are easy because the ideas just pop up and we run with them. Other days are a bitch as everything sounds ho-hum and nothing gets us excited…. What to do?

Wouldn’t it be extraordinary, if we had a team of brilliant directors feeding us blog ideas and glorious images to help us on our way to blogging stardom? Wouldn’t it be an amazing gift to bat an eyelid and have all 354 remaining posts written and ready… 🙂 Okay calm down, I have a few tips as there is no magic pill; just focus on good old persistence and hang out with some smart creatives; as per the persistent geniuses below…

Recently, I came across an impressive group of highly creative and talented directors and want to share a few of their special behind the scenes projects/works with you. The imaginative minds behind The Directors Bureau and their tdbspecialprojects site include an admirable list of Hollywood film directors; M Blash, Andy Bruntel, Sam Brown, Todd Cole, Sofia Coppola, Roman Coppola, Patrick Daughters, Nash Edgerton, Romain Gavras, Mike Maguire, Melodie McDaniel, Geoff McFetridge, Aaron Rose, and Shynola

What do they do? Aside from their original contributions in the film industry, work they do publicly and professionally, they run tdbspecialprojects as a laboratory or innovative warehouse where imaginative ideas and projects percolate, and where potential clients can consult with them on developing visual concepts for a brand launch or re-launch.

I was drawn to their work because, first off, I joined WordPress DailyPost/PostADay2011 challenge and secondly,as a blogger, there are times when I run dry of ideas and have to reach out to other sources for rejuvenation. Of the wonderfully fun and inspiring projects I checked out on the tdbspecialprojects site, a few struck me as quite smart and entertaining: 🙂

The Sports Limousine

Creative Persistence: Sports Limo via tdbspecialprojects

The Sports Limousine
The sports Limo was definitely out of a 2025 Batman Movie; I totally channeled that car and next thing I was “cruising” down Sunset Blvd (LA cops hate “that”) headed for the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood. It sent me into a day dream of stepping out of that long slick, original design of a car right onto a red carpet event; I’m winning an award for something – Lights. Camera . Action!

The Idea Generator

Creative Persistence: The Idea Generator via tdbspecialprojects

Idea-Generator
The idea generator led me down the road to writing this blog post. It’s a gadget with words that line up in three segments to give you creative prompts. It would be an incredibly innovative gadget if the generated ideas also produced images to complement them… I love visuals combined with words. Wouldn’t it be great to flip a switch and the next great blog topic comes leaping at you … Hm mm, wishful thinking but not entirely 🙂

Be A Star!

Persistence: You're a Blog Star Babe!

Be-A-Star
Be-A-Star was such a hoot! This innovative way of adding your name digitally to a Hollywood blvd star on the Walk of Fame is quite ingenious and funny. Trust me, watch the vimeo as it gives you the full picture. Now that’s something to make sure you do if you only had an hour to fake out spend in Los Angeles. 😉

Think Bubble

Think Bubble is a Fun idea...

Think-Bubble
Last but not least is my favorite, the think bubble! The idea is that it creates huge word images captured in a bubble and is placed in key locations as part of an ad campaign, brand spotting, or an outrageous wedding proposal… Now that’s a thought. . It could be used in other ways that would make writing special words in the sky so much more fascinating. Of course, getting airspace permission could prove sticky but having a bubble positioned above a landmark with something smart written would be memorable, no? Check these awesome guys out and let me know what your enjoyed most on the tdbspecialprojects site. Enjoy! 🙂 This post was adapted from one of my Positive Kismet blog posts.

Food for Thought: How do you generate ideas for your blog? Where do you get ideas for your blog? Would you blog frequently if you had a ton more ideas to share? … Do share your thoughts. Thank You!

Positive Motivation Tip: Be persistent: Ideas come and go, forever changing like the weather.

So right…some days the words just flow…other times it is more difficult. And persistance and determination are definitely key factors in getting the job done, whether it is blogging daily or making dinner. For me, there is one driving motivator: people are depending on me…even those who might never have gone to my posts…I want to post something worthwhile so that they will leave with something of value…as is the case when one leaves your blog, Elizabeth. 🙂

Same here and it is not as easy as some imagine… I am really working on persistence and brevity for this year.
With all the demands on life and all, it would be wise to keep it brief on this end. Plus, everyone is busy too. 🙂

    Hi!

You have a very rich and interesting blog. Reading through your articles inspires a positive outlook in one’s self. Great job! 🙂

By the way, thanks for dropping by my blog. I wasn’t expecting on getting any response immediately but I’m up for your offer in being my buddy. I just hope it’s okay if I signed up for the Post A Week challenge and that my blog has no specific theme in mind except on random thoughts and life events (still working on it though).

So here’s a link to my about me page: http://mindbeatz.wordpress.com/about/

Looking forward to read more of your blogs!

Nice post. I like the idea generator.
Getting idea’s to write about is not that difficult, but finding a topic on which you can write passionately and also contribute something unique is a bit more difficult.
If you can find someone with shared interest and similar thought process that would really help in posting quality posts regularly as one person could start from where the other person left off.

The mutual support is important because writing/blogging can be a lonely endeavor. I am looking forward to the back and forth of our team… This should keep us busy for the year. 🙂

I agree with Vivian Kirkfield you do have an interesting blog. You have motivated me and inspired me to step out of my comfort zone and talk about other topics I wouldn’t normally talk about. Now I just have to decide what that topic should be. I look forward to reading. Great work!:)

      Hi Soapbird,
I do enjoy what you do and what you write as well… I am looking forward to reading more from you this year too. 🙂

Be a star is a hoot and I would love to be able to add my name as the vimeo did.
I love the think bubble and that idea generator looks like an addictive toy.
The car I’ve claimed and now I have to go work at it 😉

      Hi Rosa,
Thanks for being my blog buddy too. I am enjoying your blog and learning more about art from your trained eye.
I love art and will do more posts on it to add to the few I already have on file… more to do as time goes by 🙂

Interesting! I like the idea generator.. you’re right. There’s some days where I can’t think of ANYTHING to write, and just yesterday, so many different things kept coming to me.. but I didn’t want to “waste” my ideas all on one day when there might be a day I actually need the idea to blog about! lol.. I usually save each idea as a separate “draft” post, and then I can go back to it later 🙂

    • 13/01/2011 5:37 am

I do save ideas and sometimes posts for a later day… but I like the spontaneous fresh idea too… 🙂
Yes, that idea generator is a hit. Might become the new addictive toy. I’d like one with a mini video-screen… Hey, why not right? 🙂

Nice post! I love the quote by Calvin Coolidge – so true.

Thanks Donna… I love quotes in general too. I even have a gigantic book of quotes that I refer to quite a bit… 🙂

I once wrote a book with the title “THE PERSISTANCE OF THE PHILOSOPHERS” (in German languasge, “Die Beharrlichkeit der Philosophen”) – so I like your quotation very much:
“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.

    Thank you Frizztext,
I like that quote too; especially the part about unrewarded genius being almost a proverb and the bit on educated derelicts… quite funny! 🙂

What a find! I think with blogging you’ve always got to keep a particular purpose in mind – having a blog just for the sake of having a blog is almost immediately doomed to fail because as you say it’s hard to come up with ideas day in day out!

I haven’t written or blogged in years and so knowing that with Post A Day I’d be given a prompt everyday – well it just seemed a good way to get back into it. The only thinking I have to do is coming up with a response – not an idea. Lazy, but it’s getting me back into it!

I love the thinking behind the Idea Generator! Depending oh what it does decide to spew out, it may prove useful. 😉

You are doing the work Em… don’t beat yourself up. I admire your discipline because we all need to stay focused on the writing project in front of us; esp as we still have 11 months to write 🙂

The Idea Generator seems like a good idea! 😉 There are some days when no topic comes to mind, sometimes it’s a whole week that nothing original comes to mind. That’s why I signed up at Plinky and The Daily Post. I found my way here via the latter, and I must say that i like your blog. It’s informative and entertaining. I also like the way you write.

    • 16/01/2011 7:22 am

Ditto! I believe all need time to replenish our creative juices. I enjoyed visiting your blog too… very special. 🙂

Thank you for your inspiring post! I came upon your site via PostADay2011. I’m so glad I committed to this journey as I’m meeting such interesting, vibrant bloggers. I’ve had my site for over a year, love every moment, and only wish I had more time to devote to it. Let’s see . . . what inspires me to write? Usually, I think about what is vital and happening for me on that current day and try blog about something that has to do with that. I look forward to coming back to visit your site many times!!

    • 15/01/2011 7:04 am

Thank you for stopping by, I’ll return the visit shortly and look for your posts too.
This has been a great way to connect with people on WordPress in a concrete way.
I am cautiously happy with the process; the caution part is – how long before we overload or people forget their buddies? 🙂
I’m taking it a day at a time and honoring my buddies with comments…. 🙂 How is it for you?
