On Hate & Happiness II: Choosing our Elevator & Accomplishing Our Dreams…
Yesterday, I shared a post on how an artistic installation in an elevator prompted another perspective; that we can view the image of riding an elevator through the lens of life and its ups and downs (I’ve added the other pictures here). On the elevator of life, we meet many other riders/travelers and we interact with some intimately and with others minimally. However, we must focus on what Joel Osteen describes as God’s promise in our hearts and work on accomplishing our dreams/goals.
Along the way, on our ride, we meet other people/passengers who could have negative or positive influences on us. We get to choose which elevator ride will feed our dreams; will it be the one filled with positive/happy influences and opportunities or the one that offers the reverse? The goal is to remember the dream we’ve held close to our hearts and go for it. More below!

What I like about the elevator image is that even if we get off on the wrong floor, we can get back on and re-direct our ride. We might digress for a while but as long as we get back on and re-focus, our temporary diversion on the wrong floor doesn’t have to define our future effort. Like in life, every saint has a past and every sinner has a future. We can accomplish our dreams if we put our heart and mind to it and surround ourselves with positive mentors.
Even with our best effort, we always need God’s grace and people’s grace. Prayer is a great source of grace. Some people call prayer a positive force, energy or universal goodwill, but no matter what we call it, I believe that prayer has a positive and huge vibrational impact on our lives. I believe it works in aligning us with people and events that can uplift us.

In light of what happened in Tucson, Arizona yesterday, we are all in need of prayers and compassionate action to end the rhetoric of violence and hate in our world. According to MoveOn.org, President Obama has declared a national moment of silence on Monday, January 10 at 11 a.m. Eastern Time to honor the victims of this tragedy. Everyone is encouraged to participate. My heart goes out to the families of those hurt and killed by the tragedy. MoveOn.org has also organized a petition to end the violence; you may sign the petition on their site.
I received the prayer below from one of my sisters. It has been circulated around the world amongst friends and I love its message. I don’t know who to attribute the prayer to, so if you have an idea, do share and I’ll gladly add the attribution and give credit and blessing where it’s due. What are your thoughts? Do share! Your words paint a picture…and it is a beautiful one.
Yes, if we get off on the wrong floor, we can always get back on…or sometimes, we have to take the stairs and work even harder at getting to the next level…but we CAN get there.
Thank you also for letting us know about the memorial silence tomorrow.
Silence can be very healing… It should be offered daily; too many people talking so much and all the time… Nobody listens anymore… Amen to a moment of silence.

It reminds us to stop the hypocrisy and be more considerate of others and their foibles… We all have our faults too 🙂

I couldn’t have said it any better. As a mom it’s tough sometimes explaining to my youngest why some adults behave so ill-mannered to one another. My little one always expects adults to, well, behave like responsible adults, always. It’s startling and confusing for her to witness adults yelling and cursing at one another out in public. Her jaw drops in astonishment every time, I find myself with many teachable moments when we‘re out running errands. But I almost always end our conversation with “honey you just have to see the good in people no matter what”, let this be a lesson “a reminder how not to behave”, “it’s unattractive at any age”.
