Wake Up: Your Dreams Need a Reality Check…

06/01/2011

“If you want to make your dreams come true, the first thing you have to do is wake up.” J.M. Power

Dream of Jacob by Michael Willmann

We all know people who talk endlessly about what they will do when/if, all their ducks, imagined and real, are in a row. It’s all well and good to visualize, fantasize, and imagine our future success and our dreams/goals but, like all good exercise plans, we have to move our behinds and take the first step. Our dreams need a reality check.

Dreaming is never enough even for the creative process as we must, as the quote suggests, wake up and deliver on those ideas and promptings of our muse. Day dreaming is quite fun, helping us relax and escape, for a short while, to a place of pleasant relaxation and rest. However, we must move from that phase to a place of action… we must become present and conscious about our dreams and goals…. Have a game plan.

It’s interesting that in the realm of dream research, there is fascinating information on the many aspects of dreams and the way our bodies respond positively to lucid dreaming and REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. There are scientific studies on the subject that have shown that dreams allow our brain activity to venture into unrestricted memory fragments.  We dream, our thoughts are sifted through events in our lives and, sometimes, we get insights and solutions to difficult problems. 🙂

Somewhat like meditation, our dream sleep state helps us sort through the quagmire of life and re-group to start our mental and physical functions for another day. Like Freud, I believe that “dreams are a window into the unconscious” and the goal is take the messages/experiences and turn them in practical actions that produce the results or outcomes we envisioned.

For this week’s Writers Workshop run by MamaKatslosinit, I chose:

5.) Read and Respond: “If you want to make your dreams come true, the first thing you have to do is wake up.” ~J.M. Power
As I look at the quote again, I am reminded that there are people who have prophetic dreams; essentially, they look into the future while seemingly in dream mode… They are awake in a futuristic time warp while asleep. Now that’s surreal!

What are your thoughts on dreams and what are your dreams like? Do you find ways to use your dream state to help with your wake time plans? Do share.

Positive Motivation Tip: When you wake up from your dream state, move your feet. 🙂

I believe dreams are very helpful on an intuitive and practical level. We just need to act on what we feel is correct… Movement is key. 🙂

And our eyes are open, but we don’t alawys see…being “awake” entails a lot more than just being able to go about our daily tasks. Thanks again, Elizabeth, for “opening our eyes”.

Can I just say what a relief to find someone who by all means knows what they’re talking about on the internet. You as a matter of fact know how to bring an issue to light and make it credible. More people need to read this and understand this side of the story. I cant believe you’re not more popular because you definitely have the gift.

Well Loraine, I am very flattered even though I know I have a lot to learn from others who are better at this… Compliments accepted! 🙂
Do you blog? what are your interests? Do stop by again and share more of your journey.

Hey, great post. Great blog. It is fresh and to the point. I just read literally dozens of blogs, because I can’t sleep, and yours is by far the best quality. You know it is rare to find decent content on these things… Most of them are cheap and spam.

Thanks for your comment Rose… hm mm. I do hope you stop by again to share your insights and your writings too. 🙂
      Best,
      E
