Hair I am: Embracing the Power of Silly…

Greetums Banana Lady: The Power of Silly...

Kat Caverly aka Greetums ...

In 1995: Kat as Swanlips...

Several months ago, I connected with the very funny and zany multi-talented, multi-tasking Kat Caverly aka @Greetums on Twitter by way of Tess Martin-Fox @Girlzoo.

Kat, the epitome of creativity and fun, was full of mirth and light; spreading her goodwill message while offering tidbits on her many businesses; especially those brilliant – wonderfully entertaining e-cards.
We chatted a bit and I invited her to add her joy here. She took me up on the challenge and found a moment in her busy schedule to respond to the questions.

A self-described serial entrepreneur, producer/director, designer, actress/comedienne, cat-lover and photographer/computer graphics CG-artist, Kat runs NoEvil Productions with her hubby, Thomas Hudson Reeve, and other ecards/computer graphics/animation businesses; in addition to her 2 photography websites KatCaverly and FunnyPicturesLady and 2 blogs – Lady Greetums and KatCaverly Blog. Kick back and enjoy a visit with Kat. As always, your comments are appreciated!

Foundation Questions:
Tell us a bit on your background: Who are you? Where did you grow up and where do you live now?
My name is Kat Caverly. I was born on the Southside of Chicago. I live in New York; Upstate and in New York City (2 homes)

What do you do for a living?
Now? I am a serial entrepreneur. I own Greetums.com and I am co-owner of NoEvil Productions with my husband Thomas Hudson Reeve. I am a producer/director, designer, actress/comedienne, and photographer/CG-artist. (Computer Graphics)

Why did you choose the path you now follow?
I am an artist. It chose me.

When did you decide to make key changes in your life?
There have been many key changes in my life/career, and I expect that there will be many more. Deciding to move to New York in 1981 was a pivotal change. But I would have to say that the biggest change in my life came with the growth of the Web. I entered the digital world in 1995 and became 100% digital in 2005 when I stopped shooting film. Who would have guessed that, in my lifetime, a new medium for photography would be invented!

Share your world view: How do you live your life and manage your household?
I don’t waste a precious moment of my life being miserable. My motto is “Never underestimate the power of SILLY”. Another is “Hair I am!”

“Every great and commanding moment in the annals of the world is the triumph of some enthusiasm.” Ralph Waldo Emerson
“A sense of curiosity is nature’s original school of education.” Smiley Blanton

Reflective Questions:
What do you consider the most important thing about yourself?
I was born with a keen intelligence and, at 55; I still have more energy than a group of teenagers. I literally can learn to do almost anything and I have the energy to do it!

What motivates you to get out of bed?
My never-ending curiosity. I am fascinated by many things and with the Internet, I can find it all!

What makes you happy/laugh?
I think just about everything is funny and that makes me very happy.

What makes you sad/mad?
I cannot bear lying, or sociopaths. I get really mad at bullies and will come to the defense of their victims.

What would you do differently with your life if you had the power? With the world if you had the choice?
I wouldn’t really do anything differently. I would just do more of the same; produce, entertain, be creative. I have power in my life but with more resources, I would do more.

What guiding principle(s) do you follow to make your life meaningful?
There is no honor is beating an unworthy opponent. I cannot bring myself to take advantage of anyone, even if they make it easy. I believe we all know what “Right” is but few have the energy to do the “Right” thing. In this way I am blessed. I never take the “easy” way to resolving issues.

What word(s) of advice would you give to others today?
Laugh often; laugh loud. And to quote Joseph Campbell “Follow your Bliss.”

How would you like to be remembered?
I would like to be remembered for bringing JOY into people’s lives.

Happiness is…..?
It just IS.

“Creative ideas do not spring from groups. They spring from individuals. The divine spark leaps from the finger of God to the finger of Adam.” A. Whitney Griswold

Great post! Where and how do you find time to unwind?
What do you do the get your creative juices flowing?
    Thanks.

Unwind? It is when I couldn’t do “my work” that I used to get anxious, and overworked. So I made it a habit of first things first and now I can work 16 hours a day and like a child, I don’t want to stop at the end of the day!

“What do you do to get your creative juices flowing?” What a GREAT question. I guess the simplest answer is I cultivate a atmosphere of PLAY and hone my skills of being SILLY every day. Have you been Silly today?

This is a funny lady… How does she stay so funny and where does she get her ideas/materials for her work? I loved the pictures. They are so funny. Kat, do you make any hard copy card or are they all e-greetings?

Thank you so much for your kind words Kari. I started out as an advertising photographer in 1976 and in 1987 I began creating paper greeting cards for what would be renamed Recycled Paper Greetings, RPG. But I found my real love when I started producing ecards in 2001 because I love that I have more elements; motion, sound, music to convey sentiments.

As I tell all my new designers, it gets easier to come up with ideas for Birthdays when you do it every day. I got out of the way of the ideas and I just let them flow.

It really helps to have a curious mind and the worlds largest “library” at my fingertips. Combine that with Google, and now Twitter and Facebook, and the ideas just start flooding my mind!

I have had the pleasure of tweeting with Kat for the past several months. She is consistently cheery and full of love for life. You can count on Kat to always say something to cheer you up or make you laugh. If I had a wish list, meeting Kat would be at the top of it. I have also had the pleasure of receiving some of Greetums eCards. They are awesome and Kat will personalize them just for you. I live in a little town that does not recognize St Patrick’s Day. Being all Irish this is not easy. This St Patrick’s Day Kat and I tweeted Irish facts and quotes most of the day. I was in my glory. That day was special for me just talking about Irish things, but the best would happen the end of the night when Kat thanked me for celebrating St Patrick’s Day with her and said she was looking forward to next year. Until now, I don’t Kat knew what those words meant to me. Everyday I look forward to reading her tweets whether we converse or just simply say hi. I wish Kat and her husband the best of everything always. I would also like to say I am thankful for the honor to call her a friend. ~ Kat Caverly you ARE awesome!! ~

Mary Ellen I had the most fun on a St. Patrick’s Day this year and YOU were a huge part of that. YOU have a playful spirit and know how to celebrate!

It was this St, Paddy’s celebration where I realized that even though I was all alone in my studio upstate while Tom worked on the “Big TV show” that I could still celebrate and in fact have more fun than dealing with the throngs of fake Irish people on the streets of New York City!

We are going to paint that Twitter (and Facebook) GREEN every year if I have anything to say about it. I am thinking about a roving Tweet report with video and photos from the parade in 2011.

      Keep Celebrating my friend!
