Weekly Photo Challenge: Waiting…

We spend a lot of time during our lifetime waiting for all sorts of things; love, doctors, food, life, concerts or museum events, anticipated outcomes, success, revenge, happiness and an endless list of events and things that keep life interesting. With each milestone we complete, we have an expectation of what would come after and how it would impact our lives.  Even that wonderful sculpture of Sigmund Freud could use some human company posing for a photo opportunity or sharing a discourse on Freudian slips! ;-) Living in a big city, like in the city that never sleeps, includes doses of long waits for everything; especially waiting  for public transportation. Why do we spend so much time waiting? Why do we even agree to wait for entry to a ridiculously popular restaurant that sits 5 people and takes 6 month reservations?

“None of us knows what the next change is going to be, what unexpected opportunity is just around the corner, waiting a few months or a few years to change all the tenor of our lives.” Kathleen Norris

Weekly Photo Challenge: Waiting... Waiting to be fed at a food stand on Mt Fuji's 5th Station...?

For this prompt, I was quite surprised at the collection of photos I have that show people waiting in all sorts of settings. I wondered what it was about waiting that caught my interest. Sure, the excitement and anticipation that precedes a great show, a fine meal or even entry to the Alexander McQueen show add to our conversations on waiting. The retrospective was phenomenal and I wrote a post  on it and added all the pictures I took that night… It wasn’t easy to do,  trust me! Waiting to be fed at the 5th Station on Mt Fuji or at a fine restaurant at The Chelsea Market  is an exciting prospect any day. Try it.

Woohoo! Zemanta is back and that was worth waiting for; just like these folk are waiting for customers. Would you like to buy some honey or dried fruit?  Or would you like to join the young ladies waiting in front of the Diplomat Hotel in Stockholm? They look ready for a performance in their beautiful gowns. Another lady waits with a camera in hand… I’ve added a selection of photos on the subject… Come back for more.  More below. ;-)

Twelve Things: What things are worth waiting for.... exotic travel

I was reading the Plinky prompts that come through my email and this one caught my eye: Name three things that are worth waiting in long lines for. As you can see, I thought of three things and then three more… and the rest culminated in a blog on twelve things worth the wait. Okay, I know some of these items could be seen, by some, as not quite worthy.  But don’t forget, the whole point of the exercise is to get our creative juices flowing. How long should the wait be? Well, as long as it takes; so choose wisely.

I’ve stood on line for things in the past; movie tickets, concert seats, even entrance to a favorite store offering going out of business final sales. It can be fun if you have good company, or if everyone is in a jovial mood… But it can turn nasty if you have a few louts on line and the mood turns nasty real fast. Even though, this is a fairly short list on things I’d imagine waiting for if necessary, I agree with Lee Iaccoca‘s suggestion that we get on with living and staying alive while we wait. What things would you wait for? What are your thoughts? If you could pick only one item, what would it be? Do share. Come back for more photos later! Thank You! :-)
