Musings: Do You!

Imitation is Suicide. Insist on yourself. Never imitate.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

Musings: Do You!

Musings: Do You!

What favorite quote do you return to again and again? “Imitation is Suicide. Insist on yourself. Never imitate.” by Ralph Waldo Emerson. A couple of years ago, I added a widget to my blog sidebar with the intention of regularly updating it with a quote I like. It sounded like a wonderful idea; I love quotes and could use the widget to share new ones I found. After a few months of rotating quotes on my blog, I came across the one above by Emerson and used it promptly in a post. Inspiration: To Thine Own Self Be True

I kept coming back to that quote as it spoke to me on many levels. As bloggers, it’s easy to get caught up in the razzle dazzle of other people’s blogging experience and forget why we started blogging in the first place. We forget to look at our own unique journey and find merit in it. In blogland, the road to success demands we create our niche, our path, and be brave and stand by it. There is only one copyblogger, dooce, problogger, or bloggess and all insist on playing to their strengths; to being themselves… Why settle on being an imitation? ;-) More below!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Resolved…

Happy New Year! Since the new year started, I’ve felt a steady and persistent urge to seek more quiet time. This is not a bad thing because, when we turn down the incessant noise, our senses are heightened and we become aware of what truly matters; to live purposefully. For each person, the purpose might be different but the essence remains the same… Heed your heart’s dream. Do your work. Bloom where you are planted. Don’t be afraid of failure and success. In the picture above, the mailbox stands out in a sea of snow. It represents the heart and it holds messages and gifts. But we must open our heart’s door to receive them… even the ducks know it as they swim around the boat dock.. time is flying.

“When words become unclear, I shall focus with photographs. When images become inadequate, I shall be content with silence.” Ansel Adams

Ansel Adams quote is brilliant and needs no further explanation… Both pictures above were taken recently. The bird perched on a skinny branch, and chirped away, as I wondered how it was going to survive the winter. The bird seemed content. The trees on the road just added a dash of color to the season. They too looked content. I shall be content with silence. More below!

Reflections: You Yourself Must Change It…

“It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change.” Charles Darwin

Reflections: You Yourself Must Change It…

Dreams Before Waking by Adrienne Rich
What would it mean to live
in a city whose people were changing
each other’s despair into hope?-
You yourself must change it.-
What would it feel like to know
your country was changing?-
You yourself must change it.-
Though your life felt arduous
new and unmapped and strange
what would it mean to stand on the first
page of the end of despair? (An excerpt)

ACT: To stand on the first page of the end of despair takes courage. But even more so, it takes persistent action. Working for the common good; helping the down and out, supporting causes that matter, showing simple kindness on the street, acknowledging others, takes commitment. We can sit back and let others do it or we can contribute to change the despair into hope… even in the smallest way. Thank You to my top five commentators for 2012: Bree, Frizztext, Tilly Bud, Granbee and Three Well Beings  and thank you all who supported this blog (proper thanks in future post). More below!
