Haiku: The Early Years…

“There are perhaps no days of our childhood we lived so fully as those we spent with a favorite book.” Marcel Proust

Haiku: The Early Years… the world is a book

This is not page three
Early years, part idyllic
Spent buried in books…

Curled up in a corner of my dad’s home office, book in hand, I entered the magical world of words. There, I found the sunny parts and the missing parts of my life; a world that made more sense. In this haiku, I share snippets of my early years… and I’m just being honest about the specific page numbers in my offline writings.

“Life is the childhood of our immortality.” Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Haiku: The Early Years… Secrets

This is not page two
Mystified by my childhood
Shrouded in secrets…

Some parts of my earliest years were shrouded in mystery. The inexplicable absence of certain details filled in by invented imagery.

Reflections: Keep The Faith…

“The sum total of my life experience profited more from negative than positive events. When you’re able to survive and reach another level of awareness it gives you more strength and confidence and enriches life more….”  Cicely Tyson

Reflections: Keep The Faith...

Reflections: Keep The Faith…

My dear friend and fellow blogger, Barbara of zeroto60andbeyond fame, had the Cicely Tyson quote on her post and it resonated deeply with me. It articulated what I needed to share in this post and so, I’ve split it into three parts which you can read. Our beliefs guide our faith. Faith matters to me and is present in everything; including the air we breathe. It has carried me throughout my life. I’ve written on it in different posts so, I’m adding links to some of them for your perusal.  As we enter a new year, we need to do a self scan and plan to change and grow.  It’s time to set aside petty hatreds and show kindness. Our beliefs and attitude will have an impact. My advice to us all is  – Don’t Give Up! Inspiration: Live by Faith Not by Fear…

“The negative experiences help me to find the positive, survive stronger, and richer, and fuller. More in touch with what God wants me to be in touch with…” Cicely Tyson

Reflections: Keep The Faith…

The world is made up of people with varied interests and motivations. Some of us are lovers and some are haters. Both add something to the world and to our growth. Haters are insecure, accusatory, suspicious, but they remind us to be grateful for the lovers in our lives. Lovers support and champion our efforts. They understand our humanity and thus, our failings. My advice to us all is – Enjoy the process. Grow! Mustard Seed: Faith in Small Things… More below!

Haiku: Immortalized as Lady Liberty…

“The Statue of Liberty is no longer saying, ‘Give me your poor, your tired, your huddled masses.’ She’s got a baseball bat and yelling, ‘You want a piece of me?” Robin Williams

Haiku: Immortalized in Stone...

Haiku: Immortalized as Lady Liberty

Lady Liberty…
Mine, cast in stone, struggles free
Want a piece of me?

Copper, Wrought Iron
Her old clothes… tossed casually
She wants to be free

Suffering Lady
On a painful pedestal
Dashed dreams… Hopes for peace

Why is it significant? She stands for the hope, fears and tears many immigrants live with in a new land. She is the epitome of the hopeful and the hopeless cocooned by a tough exterior that hides life’s disappointments and pain… There is opportunity in the distance. More below
