Reflections: Affirmations Open Doors…

“An affirmation opens the door. It’s a beginning point on the path to change.” Louise L. Hay

Affirmations are like seed planted in soil. Poor soil, poor growth. Rich soil, abundant growth. The more you choose to think thoughts that make you feel good, the quicker the affirmations work. Louise L. Hay

Do you believe in affirmations? Do you start your day with affirmations and prayers? As Louise Hay explains in the quote above, affirmations are seeds we plant for ourselves with words we choose to use daily; they can be negative or positive seeds. If we want positive results from our affirmations, we must repeat them several times a day, some suggest 50-100 times daily, ideally in front of a mirror. We could also write them down in a journal/notebook and then, each day, choose an affirmation and write it down about 15-20 times; over and over again throughout the day.
• We deserve peace and abundance. We are worthy. Only good meets us at the door of our heart.

“Belief consists in accepting the affirmations of the soul; unbelief, in denying them.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

The goal of an affirmation is to bring us, and others, a positive outcome, peace and abundance. But we must stay the course of making a positive difference in our lives. Affirmations are like a muscle, the more we use them, the stronger the expected results. Anything we do consistently and with conviction soon bears fruit… and that fruit might take 3-6 months or more to mature. I’ve added seven affirmations to this post. (you may replace We with I) Enjoy them with an open heart.
• We rise above the limitations of our past. We are present and fully engaged in our blessings.
• We answer in the affirmative to all the good around us. All our needs and desires are met.

“Constant repetition carries conviction.” Robert Collier

If you’ve lived, you’ve had your share of disappointments and hurts and they can take a toll on the human psyche. Even a mean word expressed in anger has tremendous energy behind it. If we can refrain from using those words on ourselves and others, the release will bring a lightness and joy to our space. We can start our day by standing in front of a mirror and repeating some of the inspirational affirmations included in this post or any you have written or culled elsewhere. One affirmation a day will suffice.
• We are the embodiment of love and it flows into the world like a tidal wave.
• We choose events and outcomes that invite uplifting opportunities into our lives. We are more than the sum of our experiences.

Reflections: Every Moment Counts…

“Realize deeply that the present moment is all you ever have…” Eckhart Tolle

Reflections: Every Moment Counts… Sahasrara – symbolizes detachment from illusion

Plan your hours to be productive,
Plan your weeks to be educational,
Plan your years to be purposeful,
Plan your life to be an experience of growth
Plan to change. Plan to grow. Iyanla VanZant

Remember the last time you puttered around your home reading and tossing old magazines? Or what about that lingering bubble bath you took or the time you stopped to watch some street entertainer perform a song or dance? Perhaps we savored the moment; maybe we felt a niggling pull or a critical voice in our head telling us to get back to being busy. Whether we are being productive, purposeful or playful, every moment counts…

“Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the lord.” Psalm of David 31:24

Reflections: Every Moment Counts… Ajna – symbolizes the 3rd eye of intuition

Do not let your fire go out,
Spark by irreplaceable spark,
In the hopeless swamps of the approximate,
The not-quite, the not-yet, the not-at-all.
[…] The world you desired can be won.
It exists, it is real, it is possible, it is yours. Ayn Rand

For years, I felt that if I wasn’t being fully engaged in some productive endeavor, I was wasting my time. But, the fact is that every moment we spend on this planet counts in our favor (an opportunity to learn/serve), and nothing is a waste of time. Our active and inactive days give us a chance to regroup, refresh and recalibrate our lives; our quiet times are as valuable as our hectic ones.

“A single day is enough to make us a little larger.” Paul Klee

Reflections: Every Moment Counts… Vishuddhi – symbolizes the throat, all forms of oral communication

You’re worried about
How you’re going to feel
At the end of your life?
Live. Right this minute.
That’s where the joy is at. Abigail Thomas

The last several days have been difficult and, as a way to seek clarity and comfort, I turned my attention to inspirational writings; scriptural texts and uplifting magazine articles. In O Magazine, I came across a wonderful piece offering us 11 quotes to help us make the most of the here and now. I felt a shift after reading them and the idea for this post was born. I also thought that, instead of 11 quotes, it would be helpful to have 14 great quotes to ponder for the next seven days, two per day, with beautiful images accompanying each set of quotes.

“This year I am choosing, to live beyond my wildest dreams. I wonder where it will take me.” Oprah Winfrey

Reflections: Every Moment Counts… Anahata - symbolizes the heart and all the emotions tied to it

Fear is the most fearful of all things,
and it, in itself, is an illusion.
The fear of death is one of its greatest
cultivations. Death can freak you out totally.
And unless you think about it, take it apart
molecule by molecule, and begin to figure it
out, it will continue to paralyze you. Ginny Brock

As I started looking for appropriate images, I came across the Chakra page in Wikipedia and realized that the vibrant colors would be perfect.  I could compliment the quotes with images from the seven energy centers or chakras in the body.  The Chakras are “force centers” or whorls of energy permeating, from a point on the physical body…. considered focal points for the reception and transmission of energies.”  They represent points of light or energy links that enhance certain qualities or behavioral patterns in the body. You may click on the links I added and read up on each for more in-depth information. I hope you take a moment to contemplate the quotes and accompanying pictures. More below!

Reflections: Relationships Are A Gift…

“If someone is in your life, it is because they have a gift for you, and you have a gift for them.” Robert Holden

Reflections: Relationships Are A Gift… Herbert & Zelmyra Fisher. Photo credit: DL Anderson

All of our relationships bring gifts and lessons; sometimes bitter, sometimes sweet. Some  relationships are for a season; short, casual, fleeting, lacking in depth. Others are lifelong; with the complications and celebrations that accompany our journey on that path. Regardless of the strength or length of our relationships, we walk away with a gift or more — memories, emotions, lessons and even reinvented stories of the time we shared. What gifts do yours offer?

Zelmyra (103) and Herbert (105) Fisher hold the Guinness World Record as the longest married couple in the world; 88 years and counting. They were married on May 13, 1924 and maintain a strong, loving relationship. What is the secret to the longevity of their marriage? Zelmyra: “No secrets,” she says. “There isn’t any secret. It was only God that kept us together.”   Herbert: “I didn’t know I would be married this long,” he says. You may read more about their relationship in this AARP article: 86 Years of ‘I Do’ or connect with Herbert and Zelmyra Fisher on Twitter via their handle – @longestmarried  There is more below!
