Did you attend your High School Prom? Do you remember what you wore? In case you’ve forgotten, Prom Night is around the corner, and it’s time for high school seniors to learn some shopping tips to help them find fabulous gowns and tuxedos for the occasion. For anyone unfamiliar with the term, Prom Night or Senior Ball/Prom, it is the paramount celebration marking the completion of high school and high school seniors look forward to not only graduation but also to the celebratory parties .

One of the highlights of Senior Ball is the announcement of a Prom King and Queen. The votes are collected during the final semester, tallied, and announced on prom night. The winners take a bow and have their first dance and then they join other seniors to have a great time. Key to having fun on Prom night is choosing the best dress/gown that will make each person shine. Everyone wants to look their best on that special date night, and JenJenHouse is here to help young ladies pick the best gowns from their extensive collections; gowns like the elegant ones showcased above and below.

What strategies did you use when planning for your prom dress? We are now in the month of March, and it’s time to learn some tips, set a budget, plan our shopping, and go out and buy a gorgeous dress. Why now? Even though Prom is a few months away, buying a Prom gown early is a wise move because the selections and the price points are better. Since thousands of graduating seniors will be on the prowl hunting for the best ball gowns, having a clear strategy and executing it thoughtfully will make an impact on the selection process. Before Prom night arrives, many young adults and their families start scouting stores looking for gowns; knowing what to do is imperative.

What shopping tips should we have before buying a Prom dress? Before purchasing a gown, it’s important to have these few tips handy. For starters: (a) Shop early and stick to your planned budget for your gown and accessories
(b) Pick a gown a size larger and stay open to trying new styles and colors.
(c) If possible, try the clothes you select on or ask family and friends you trust for feedback.
(d) Ask for feedback from the sales staff, including basics on their return policy. (e) Look at the latest arrivals for insights on what’s hot for the coming season.
(f) Once purchased, store your gown in a special gown bag and include a bag with your accessories.
(g) Let your friends know what you bought to avoid duplication, and schedule your alterations.
(h) Try on your gown a week before the event and fix any concerns. If you need to change gowns, do so immediately.
What else would you add to this list? What memories of Prom come to mind? Would you dress up differently if you could go back to Prom night?

There are some pretty dresses out there these days. I never went to my prom, but the dresses back in the 90’s were hideous, so maybe that is a good thing.

  4. 05/03/2014 12:57 pm

They sure do have some beautiful prom dresses out there, but thank goodness my Grandkids are grown and won’t be needing them this year.

High school proms only came to England in time for my daughter’s generation and they started simply!

Beautiful dresses! I love them. It’s good when people can afford such beauty. I think it is money well spent. The memories of having worn a dress like one of these is going to last a lifetime.

I went to my prom. And I remember how much fun it was picking out my dress. I could never have spent the amount that some of these dresses are selling for n a one time dress, but I did have beautiful one!

A very fun post, Elizabeth! I missed both my high school and college graduations, but when my husband and I were around thirty, we were a part of the folk dance crowd, mostly geeks and nerds and awkward but creative teenagers who had grown up and gravitated toward each other as adults. A friend hosted a prom at the fictional Margaret Hamilton High School with an Over the Rainbow theme for those of us who were too shy to go our proms the first time around. We got to wear prom gowns and have our photographs taken under a tissue paper rainbow, and the whole hall was decorated with an Emerald City theme (Emerald City is the nickname of our city, Seattle). So it’s nice to know that it’s never too late to go to prom!

The champagne colored dress with the bodice bead work is stunning! It’s amazing to see all the dresses coming out for prom. They certainly weren’t as elegant back when I had my prom.

It was always a special time to help my daughter pick out her prom dresses. She still has them and they’re exquisite!

I have to admit I never went to my prom – I kinda wish I had just to have been able to wear a beautiful dress 🙂 x

I’m past the age of prom, but I’ve been seeing a lot of these posts lately! I think the biggest thing to remember is that you don’t have to spend a ton of money on a dress you’re only going to wear once 🙂

I loved attending my high school prom and I really enjoyed shopping around for different prom dress styles.

  19. 05/03/2014 7:24 pm

I love that dress in the top picture upper right hand corner. I know it is a prom dress but I have a friend that is getting married and she just saw it and is excited to check it out. They have beautiful dresses, maybe we can get the entire wedding party outfitted here.

  20. 05/03/2014 7:27 pm

I never did go to prom. I don’t think my mom would have been able to afford a dress for me as she was single with 4 kids to raise. I did love going to the mall and trying on all the beautiful gowns around prom season though.

My daughter will be going to prom in 2 years, and I am really excited to do the dress shopping with her!

I attended both my Jr and Sr Proms. There were no strategies involved, we went to the store and found a dress I liked the fit the budget. I was all of 14 so it was nothing serious, and I hated my classmates anyway because they bullied me.

I do remember my prom and buying my dress. It was many, many years ago. I only had sons so I never was able to enjoy this with my own daughter.

JenJen House seems to have a lot of great styles available which seems like it would make it a little easier to find something.

My best prom shopping tip: don’t be so picky that you end up running out at the last minute to get ANYTHING because you were stuck on a specific dress. Of course, with the internet, finding the right dress is so much easier than it was when I was in high school!

  24. 06/03/2014 10:25 am

JenJenHouse has some beautiful prom dresses! I went to my senior prom and hd a great time (despite having a terrible boyfriend at the time LOL)!

  25. 06/03/2014 12:47 pm

What beautiful gowns! I love the feel of chiffon gowns. It should be a reasonable price and not too expensive.

  26. 06/03/2014 3:29 pm

Those are some beautiful prom dresses. My daughter has been looking for dresses and have found a few. I’ll have to show her these as well. Thanks for sharing.

  27. 06/03/2014 5:42 pm

What I had prom they didn’t have such a wide selections of styles like they do now. LOL. I would most def go back and change a few things. The dresses now are amazing.

  28. 06/03/2014 7:29 pm

Great tips!! I love these dresses. Really makes me wish I was back to my former early 20s shape so I could wear them lol

  29. 06/03/2014 7:30 pm

These tips are great! I remember my prom dress vividly. Mainly because my husband bought for me for Christmas. At the tone we were dating. I remember thinking it was the most beautiful dress I’ve ever seen. A prom dress should make a young lady feel special like mind made me.

  30. 07/03/2014 1:48 pm

I didn’t go to prom, at the time I just didn’t want to go, but now I think it might have been a fun experience! THose are some nice dresses by the way…

Those are a some beautiful dresses! I would always ask my dad to take me prom dress shopping over my mom, because my mom was all about the best deal. My dad would get tired and finally cave and let me get whatever I wanted LOL

  33. 08/03/2014 5:13 am

I like these bright ideas. In my day I wore black one year and a shimmery purple the other.

  34. 08/03/2014 3:39 pm

Looking back 2 years I miss the shopping with my daughter !

    • 08/03/2014 3:52 pm

Yeah, I hear you… time does fly and the kids fly the coop. 🙂

      • 08/03/2014 3:55 pm

Yes it was hard coughing up $400.00 for the Senior Prom but now in hindsight I miss her : ) She looked beautiful! They all look like movie stars now days!

      • 09/03/2014 10:22 am

They sure do and they start the botox and such early too… sad. I wish teens would just stick to wearing gorgeous clothes.

      • 09/03/2014 10:26 am

I’d kill her if she did that ! Now me on the other hand……………
