Haiku: Cliché…

25/02/2013

“I think to be oversensitive about cliches is like being oversensitive about table manners.” Evelyn Waugh

Haiku: Cliché...

Haiku: Cliché…

Cliches may speak truths
As they fly over our head
I’m game for a change…

If she swept past him
On her way to a great date
She scored a birdie…

More below… I decided to play around with cliche lines and enjoyed it. They are here to stay … like it or not.

“Last, but not least, avoid cliches like the plague.” William Safire

Haiku: Cliché...

Haiku: Cliché…

A landscape cliche
Full of the usual suspects
Why stop? Tit for tat

A black bird in hand
Might be worth two in the bush
But who is counting!!?

This post was partly inspired by a Daily Post Prompt: Daily Prompt: Cliché. Clichés become clichés for a reason. Tell us about the last time a bird in the hand was worth two in the bush for you.

*Please bear with me as I’m finally beginning to catch up on your blogs and commenting… I’m back on track; albeit at a slow pace. Thank you all for your patience!

Positive Motivation Tip: If life is full of cliches, why fight it? Live and let live…

“If life is full of cliches” – I believe it always would be so, and full of illusions too – in my eyes it doesn’t really matters as long as we not turn into a cliche or an illusion ourselves… 🙂 😉

    A really great post, Eliz – as usual… 😉

Well said! I’m okay with cliches, they add color to our language. 🙂

Writing cliche poems is great fun but quite difficult.

I know as a writer cliches are a no no, but personally I still like to say them. 🙂

I love using them Tracy… You know, now and then, we must break convention. Matilda will agree. 😉

Wow. That was pretty funny. Not sure if I could write in that many clichés!!

I don’t always think it’s best to avoid risk, though I went to Atlantic city this weekend, and that 80 bucks I gambled away, was certainly a bird in hand!

I use allot of sports cliches in my writing and talk.. I think they relate really well with some of the things i do,

  13. 13/01/2014 11:12 am

I live in an area where people talk in cliches all the time. I guess I hear them so much that I really don’t think much of them.

The one that I have found most meaningful in my life, I learned as a teenager. I was with a friend at an outdoor activity visiting and right before our eyes, someone in a car smashed into his vehicle, then drove away. He said something that I will never forget, “This, too, shall pass.” It was the first time that I heard it, and it has been a theme throughout my life. Any time something bad happens, I hear that cliche, and I am able to get through it.

Funny one Elizabeth! I wish I could write something like that lol. but thanks for the positive tip!

I think clichés are very true. They tell a universal truth. But we should be very careful in not overusing them.

Cliches are OK but you can’t over use them. It gets old quick.
