I think of this line often… “Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.” Yes, we are powerful but we must not abuse it or use it to hurt others. What we see and experience from our view up on a tall building, that sense of being on top of the world, might not be as great as what waits for us out there; beyond our limited vision of a much larger landscape. The rest is vanity…
Above is the Woolworth Building and beyond it is Brooklyn with the Manhattan and Brooklyn bridges in view. I took this from the top floor of 7 World Trade Center. The BMW building was fun to shoot. I was in the Olympiaturm across the way and kept trying to capture the cylinders without too much sun reflection. I wonder what that light green building in the back is… any idea Frizztext? I took The Black Forest shot from Neuschwanstein Castle and it shows; Alpsee with locality of Hohenschwangau in front; 19th century Hohenschwangau Castle on a hill with Schwansee behind it on the right (west); town of Alterschrofen with town of Füssen behind it; core of Schwangau in front of large Forggensee reservoir. I was visiting a little modern museum on the grounds of Willem de Conqueror’s Castle in Caen when I ventured up a stairway and there, before me, was a fantastic view of the entire city below. It was awe inspiring and there was a powerful presence in that captured moment; the way the old warriors might have felt after conquering a nation and viewing it from a hill top. I had the same experience looking at Manhattan from 7 WTC, and at the Seattle landscape from the Space Needle … such magnificence. Yet, I wonder why else we are so captivated by the view beyond. I went hiking with my martial arts team and took the first shot at the top of the mountain. The High line Park in Chelsea area in NYC, and Oktoberfest in Munich were special outings, hanging out with friends I don’t see very often, and so the memories will always return when I look at these shots. Sometimes, I wonder why we pursue the unreachable, the untouchable… the beyond. Again, what are we looking for? What is it about our human drive that keeps us reaching or does it? I like Hawthorne’s advice.
I love the message of this quote: “Once we accept our limits, we go beyond them.” Albert Einstein. We take shots from tall buildings and then we want to climb higher. Next would be where? What? Why? Any suggestions? Do stop by later as I dig deep for shots I took from other tall buildings like the Tokyo Tower. Thank you! Have a great weekend and thanks again for stopping by!

I loved the quote about the butterlfy who lands like happiness on you, if you don’t chase it. I often think happiness is the byproduct of doing the right thing,and not the strategic thing. Thats why that statement is so powerful to me

Great quotes, especially the Hawthorne. Of all the photos I like the Downtown Manhattan best, the density of buildings is amazing. I always wonder of about the people in those blocks going about their business like ants, there must be so many of them.

I love the encouragement to think beyond what we see today. So often if I have believed “today” was the end of the vision, I’d despair. But believing in another day to perhaps usher in some necessary changes or revisions is a hopeful way to live, I think. Beyond–what a great word challenge!

Wonderful wonderful photos. The one scene that had its most impact on me was walking through a stone archway and there before me was the huge Canterbury Cathedral but did not have a camera to record it.
