Haiku: The Power of Silence…

02/01/2013

“Silence is the sleep that nourishes wisdom.” Francis Bacon

Haiku: The Power of Silence...

Haiku: The Power of Silence…

Everything has its wonders, even darkness and silence,
and I learn, whatever state I may be in, therein to be content. Helen Keller

A meditation…
There will be no open doors
‘Til man loves peace more…

“Nothing strengthens authority so much as silence.” Leonardo da Vinci

Haiku: The Power of Silence...

Haiku: The Power of Silence…

From silence you come, to silence you go.
Enter your inner space and know where you come from. The eternal silence awaits you with endless patience. Unknown

In the silence, Truth
We stand naked with our thoughts
Wisely fed soul food…

Take some time to observe silence this year… to sit and meditate. We constantly rush around meeting deadlines, doing chores, completing tasks… Stop. Turn down the noise and speedometer… Silence. More below!

“Silence is a true friend who never betrays.” Confucius

Haiku: The Power of Silence...

Haiku: The Power of Silence…

We need to find God, and he cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature – trees, flowers, grass- grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence… We need silence to be able to touch souls. Mother Teresa

Silence taught me that
Answers arise from the heart
Deep, beyond the noise…

Have an inspired week!
How do you observe silence? Does it help calm or upset your day? Do share! Thank you. :-)

I love peace and quite, but I do find it hard to meditate. I just turn off everything and think of love. Someone in Bali taught me that when I was there. :)

    • 04/01/2013 1:33 pm

That’s a great way to start… It doesn’t require strain… just surrendering to the process of relaxation.

  2. 04/01/2013 7:31 am

Beautiful post, Eliz, your words and quotes slow me down.

I love the silence outdoors, but not indoors. Music is my constant companion, except when I’m writing. :)

    Happy 2013!

    • 04/01/2013 1:37 pm

TY Marion! This felt right after a long week of holiday adjustments. :-)

TY! I enjoyed my visit with you Do you meditate? :-)

      • 04/01/2013 1:44 pm

Not in the typical way–my daily walks are my meditation. I usually walk into a wooded area with a creek and silence. It’s the repetitive nature of seeing the same places, yet seeing them in new ways.

      • 04/01/2013 1:53 pm

Walking meditations are great too… I walk a lot on the aqueduct near me and its the same experience too… every calming. :-)

      • 04/01/2013 1:46 pm

Do I meditate , I am not sure. I think on the word and it’s happenings, I pray God that the good will finally out do the bad. I love the birds and the flowers. I go to Pilates and yes maybe I do meditate in my own way. ;) xxx

      • 04/01/2013 1:54 pm

I believe you do… mindful living is meditative and I believe you do that too. :-)

I had a serious accident three Years ago and I have learnt to live with pain, I saw a pain therapist at the local hospital and she got me to start my blog, at first it was all about pain but now it is true about life. This therapist recommended I read a book called ” Living with Chronic pain and illness the mindful way” By Vidyamala Burch one of the best buys I have made.

      • 04/01/2013 2:31 pm

OMG!!!!! Now I know why we connected too. Have we discussed this before? I had an accident three years ago and similar story… wow! Do you know Fergie?

  8. 04/01/2013 1:30 pm

This is what I love about living in the country. The peace and serenity is so good for the soul…

    • 04/01/2013 1:42 pm

‘Tis! It is what I love about where I am too… there is always something pulling one back to nature. TY! :-)

Great post on silence, Eliz. I love the mixture of quotations and images to convey silence as odd as that sounds. I found something on twitter called #sit365. It is a commitment to meditate for at least 30 minutes everyday for the whole year. I’ve made it one of my priorities. Maybe I should shut up and be silent now. haha

    • 04/01/2013 9:58 pm

If you can commit, it’s a great practice. TY for your observations… ironic eh? It’s the only way to convey it in writing; soothing images and words… :-)

  10. 04/01/2013 4:54 pm

This is a beautiful post, Eliz. Though I am quite the noisy type I do crave a touch of silence every now and then to contemplate

    • 04/01/2013 10:01 pm

Good! If you take a moment to step back from the noise, it’d help… Small stones is a great exercise for it. :-) TY!

    Silence how wonderful

  13. 04/01/2013 5:32 pm

I love the silence when we’re hiking or camping and there is no sound at all. It’s beautiful!

    • 08/01/2013 12:21 am

It is quite profound…. Then we really hear, see and say. :-)

  14. 04/01/2013 6:11 pm

I do love silence too, Elizabeth. You have some wonderful quotes here, but my favourite is this one, “From silence you come, to silence you go. Enter your inner space and know where you come from. The eternal silence awaits you with endless patience.” Unknown
    So Beautiful.

    • 08/01/2013 12:55 am

      TY Adin… I love that one too… I think I went quotes crazy a bit…. :-)

  15. 04/01/2013 7:52 pm

Silence is golden and loving it in every waking moment of my life. I go on silent retreat for 3 to 7 days. I still have yet to try a 30 day. No thoughts, just be present.

    • 08/01/2013 12:22 am

Fantastic! I took a silent retreat once… It was very powerful indeed! TY! :-)

For me, to manage silence of thoughts for a moment in a day is the inner utopia of a peaceful self. It’s like taking a nap. I strive to obtain this daily. Thank you, Elizabeth.

  17. 05/01/2013 2:05 pm

Silence comes to me when I’m thinking of happy thoughts
…the pure joy of enjoying whoever or whatever I’m thinking about…The thought of …
meditating has entered my mind as a new thing
for me to try… Now to find my place …
and connect to that relaxed point…

“Answers arise from the heart, Deep, beyond the noise.” Thank you for sharing your wisdom, Eliz!

    • 08/01/2013 12:26 am

TY for sharing yours…. and paying attention; a special gift.

  20. 06/01/2013 11:19 pm

Enjoying silence can be difficult. We are so used to noise that we feel that something is wrong when all is quiet.

    • 08/01/2013 12:28 am

It takes some practice, but it works and gains more support as we play with it…

  21. 07/01/2013 5:28 am

I need more silence!! This should be a 2013 goal for me.

  22. 09/01/2013 10:15 pm

You know, it reminds me how I love to communicate by silence… The sweetest noise ever :)
