Reflections: Keep The Faith…

29/12/2012

“The sum total of my life experience profited more from negative than positive events. When you’re able to survive and reach another level of awareness it gives you more strength and confidence and enriches life more….”  Cicely Tyson

Reflections: Keep The Faith…

My dear friend and fellow blogger, Barbara of zeroto60andbeyond fame, had the Cicely Tyson quote on her post and it resonated deeply with me. It articulated what I needed to share in this post and so, I’ve split it into three parts which you can read. Our beliefs guide our faith. Faith matters to me and is present in everything; including the air we breathe. It has carried me throughout my life. I’ve written on it in different posts so, I’m adding links to some of them for your perusal.  As we enter a new year, we need to do a self scan and plan to change and grow.  It’s time to set aside petty hatreds and show kindness. Our beliefs and attitude will have an impact. My advice to us all is  – Don’t Give Up! Inspiration: Live by Faith Not by Fear…

“The negative experiences help me to find the positive, survive stronger, and richer, and fuller. More in touch with what God wants me to be in touch with…” Cicely Tyson

Reflections: Keep The Faith...

Reflections: Keep The Faith…

The world is made up of people with varied interests and motivations. Some of us are lovers and some are haters. Both add something to the world and to our growth. Haters are insecure, accusatory, suspicious, but they remind us to be grateful for the lovers in our lives. Lovers support and champion our efforts. They understand our humanity and thus, our failings. My advice to us all is – Enjoy the process. Grow! Mustard Seed: Faith in Small Things… More below!

“You’ve survived and once you survive you’re on another level because you came through the storm. Storms are stimulating!”  Cecily Tyson

Reflections: Keep The Faith...

Reflections: Keep The Faith…

The Indian mystic and spiritual teacher, Meher Baba, saw faith in three parts/types:  “There are three kinds of faith: (i) faith in oneself, (ii) faith in the Master and (iii) faith in life. Faith is so indispensable to life that unless it is present in some degree, life itself would be impossible.” Our faith can move mountains if we believe it can. For 2013, let’s, at least, believe that we can move the detritus we carry inside and replace it with courage, faith and love…  My advice to us all is: – Keep the faith! All situations has at least 2 angles
If you think “it’s gonna go wrong” you get probably right
If you think “it will be OK” you get probably right
    - why not choose the positive instead of the negative view… :-)

    Very well written post… :-)

I love how you break the Tyson quotation up into three parts. It reminds us to be patient in the face of negative events, to have faith in a larger plan. I can’t think of a better way to start the New Year than with a reminder of faith.
Have a light filled New Year, Eliz. {{{Hugs}}} Kozo

I love how you presented this quote of Ms. Tyson’s Elizabeth! I first heard it in her interview on Oprah when the cast of Roots was on. I had recorded it and went back to see that portion several times to correctly quote her. It is an awesome way to look at life! I’m so glad you shared it too.
Let’s hope the storms of 2012 make us stronger for 2013!

I love “storms are stimulating.” I wish I could always remember that when the storms of life hit! But it’s good to be reminded here, Eliz. I’m looking forward to what you’ll be sharing in the new year, my friend. I trust it will be a happy year, with only the smallest of storms! :-)

    Hi Eliz

Thank you for your post on faith. It is something I have been pondering lately.

I love that you found the silver lining in having haters in the world.

    You’re my kind of girl!

Nice positive post. I think I might have to reblog this for my Monday Motivation. And this (the quote and your commentary) is very similar to what my pastor did his New Year’s Even sermon on. Definitely drives it home for me. Thanks!

    • 03/01/2013 1:52 am

TY! Feel free to re-blog it. I’m glad it added a touch more to a wonderful sermon. :-)

Wonderful quotes! I have always marveled at the level of peace and serenity mastered by people who have undergone extreme hardship!

    • 03/01/2013 1:56 am

Yes… same. There is something that clicks and stays during/after such heaviness… I suppose. TY! :-)
