Haiku: Yo Slick… Blow!

26/12/2012

“To know when to go away and when to come closer is the key to any lasting relationship.” Doménico Cieri Estrada

Haiku: Yo Slick... Blow!

Some shit jive is poison…

Bell Biv DeVoePoison (Remix)

Some jive is poison…
Endless gossip about nonsense
I say, yo slick… blow

It’s my prerogative…

Bobby BrownMy Prerogative

How we live our lives
Look, it’s our prerogative
Toe the line or… go

A friend shared a decision about a difficult relationship and all the clamoring others made. It brought back memories and prompted this haiku; with a title to make us chill out and smile or relax a bit…  You know, humor helps with heavy stuff.  Sometimes, relationships flounder or end, even in blog land, and we must respect the shifting winds, put out the fire, or set our sails elsewhere. Music can soothe the hurt; but then we must move forward. More below!

“If we are incapable of finding peace in ourselves, it is pointless to search elsewhere.” Francois de la Rochefoucauld

Haiku: Yo Slick... Blow!

Haiku: Yo Slick… Blow! Wrestlers

What’s the difference..? Right, mind your own yard.

Dr Dre Feat Eminem & XzibitWhat’s The Difference (strong language; watch at your discretion)

What’s the difference..?
Relationships are complex
So mind your own yard.

What’s the solution?
If our choice makes us happy
We choose, not You… Peace!

Even though the holidays are a time of good cheer and family time, ironically, they can also trigger conflict, strong memories, and emotions of long forgotten events. Stop wrestling with the past. What is key is to stay true to our source of joy…and as the New Year approaches, make peace with our choices and ignore the naysayers in the peanut gallery. Holding on to the expired is paralyzing… Do what you are supposed to do. Drop it! Peace Y’all!

Happy Holiday Season to All! What relationship issues are you wrestling with? Are you swayed by the opinions of others or you decide? What are your thoughts?

This post was inspired by a prompt from WP Daily Post: Daily Prompt: High Noon. At noon today, take a pause in what you’re doing or thinking about. Make a note of it, and write a post about it later.
And Weekly Writing Challenge: Just Do It! Your challenge: post every day for a full week. We’re excited to see what you’ll post about — be sure to tag your post DPchallenge so that we can follow your progress.

*Please bear with me as I catch up on your blogs and commenting… I’m back on track; albeit at a slow pace. Thank you all for your patience! 🙂

Positive Motivation Tip: Our relations change as we change and sometimes they lead us on a new journey. Stay flexible and embrace the changes; good and not so good. It too shall pass.

You’re so right about holidays, anniversaries as well, triggering memories and emotions from the past – powerful stuff.

    • 27/12/2012 3:41 am

TY Gilly! And they can be debilitating if we don’t put a check on them… TY! 😉

  2. 26/12/2012 2:56 pm

Wise words, friend. Relationship endings are so difficult, but it is the power within that matters. I have struggled with this for a long time, even now. I worry what others think of my decisions. I have learned to do what is right for me; although it doesn’t always stick, at least I try. Great quotes! 🙂

    • 27/12/2012 3:43 am

      TY for openly sharing your pain… It is not easy but with compassionate self love, we are able to move forward. TY! 🙂 {{{HUGS}}}

It’s driving out of my mind…that’s why it’s hard for me to find… 🙂 Change is not always bad, it just is. In fact, without any change, there would be no growth. Nice post!

    • 27/12/2012 3:46 am

I love that song too. 😆 Yes, we all go through changes throughout our lives and our attitude will make a difference. TY! 🙂

2012 had a lot of change for me personally. I changed jobs and cried when I broke it off with one company to begin again. It is all just part of the journey in the end.

    • 27/12/2012 3:47 am

It is part of the journey indeed. We learn and we grow from the experiences; a; all of them. TY! 🙂

  5. 26/12/2012 3:35 pm

I have always gone with what I thought was best for me. It wasn’t always the most popular decision. But it was mine.

    • 27/12/2012 3:49 am

Good for you and a bold statement that more of us need to embrace… Do what is best for you first… then the good flows to others. TY! 🙂

  6. 26/12/2012 4:22 pm

Yes. Stop wrestling with the past… Very important advice. No matter how hard we try, we can’t change it… I always try to look forward, not back.

    • 27/12/2012 3:50 am

TY Petchary and it is not easy at all but worth the effort. Upwards and onwards! 🙂

  7. 26/12/2012 4:43 pm

Love Eminem & Dre when they get together. SO CHOICE – LOVED THIS.
I really like the sound of the high noon idea for a post. I just might do that. It’s 11.43 am right now…

    Really enjoyed this, eof737 🙂

    • 27/12/2012 3:52 am

TY for checking this post out and I’m with you on Eminem & Dr. Dre… they are part of my musical life. Go for it and I’ll be stopping by to check and comment. {{{HUGS}}} TY! 🙂

Good advice, Eliz. With such a large family as mine, old feelings always crop up and continue to fester. People forget what’s important. . .

    • 27/12/2012 4:12 am

So true… and it can taint the joy that the holidays are supposed to bring… So my position is to be aware of these high emotional times and not fan the fires. Or at least know someone has your back! TY! 🙂

  9. 26/12/2012 6:33 pm

Reading your wise advice reminds me a quote from Lao Tzu ““By letting go it all gets done.” Thank you, Elizabeth!

    • 27/12/2012 4:13 am

Excellent quote… I love it and agree with you and Lao Tzu. 🙂

  10. 26/12/2012 7:14 pm

    Good advice!

  11. 26/12/2012 7:33 pm

The holidays are entirely overwhelming in the emotional “needs” department! I am so glad I have a week before I go back to work! I need the time to do a lengthy, reasonable personal inventory. I really appreciate the line, “holding on to the expired is paralyzing.” What a strong statement! Thank you, Eliz. Such an interesting topic for the High Noon prompt. I’m not sure I was able to string together too many decent thoughts by noon today! 🙂

    • 27/12/2012 4:18 am

TY Debra! Sometimes the best material comes from our friends and so it is with this one. Yes, this is the season for joy and emotion so a personal self-check is in order. I love the high noon prompt… They ought to offer it weekly… you never know what might surface. 🙂

  12. 26/12/2012 10:13 pm

Awesome! Great post. You always find the best quotes for your theme. Very helpful when you’re going through the rough parts. Love all the songs you have here they bring me back … way back!

    • 27/12/2012 4:24 am

TY dear one… those songs take me back… way back too!! And they are some of the best memories too. Yes, we need to hold ourselves together and work through the rough parts… Music sure does help. Helped me! TY 🙂 😎

  13. 27/12/2012 7:29 am

I stayed up way past my bedtime last night reading Pride and Prejudice and was glad I did. I mean really, when is reading a good book ever a bad choice?!? Anyway, this post made me think of something Elizabeth Bennett said to Mr. Darcy and I rather liked it and will work to incorporate the sentiment into my own thinking as often as I can remember to, “Think only of the past as its remembrance gives you pleasure.” Thanks for another great post! 🙂

    • 27/12/2012 11:24 am

Hope you finished reading that tome… I remember it well; especially Ms Bennett. 😉 Thank you for this insightful feedback… I love the quote too. 🙂

      • 27/12/2012 3:22 pm

Absolutely I did. Couldn’t go to sleep till I was finished. I am a sucker for a happy ending! 🙂

      • 27/12/2012 4:39 pm

        Good for you! 🙂

  14. 27/12/2012 12:56 pm

What an amazing quote – “If we are incapable of finding peace in ourselves, it is pointless to search elsewhere.”

Christmas can be a time for stress for a lot of people and I’m really glad you posted this. You’re so right about holding on to the expired being paralyzing – it happens to the best of us and we have to let it go 😉

    • 27/12/2012 1:47 pm

TY Dianne! It is an intense holiday because of so many factors and it can be incredibly disheartening for people without the support system of loved ones… TY! 🙂

  15. 27/12/2012 1:32 pm

Damn Girl, You Fly. Haikus juxtaposed with Dre, Bell Biv Devoe, and Bobby when he was launching off New Edition fame. Love it, Eliz. I agree with Dianne, the peace quote is a keeper, just like you. 🙂

    • 27/12/2012 1:45 pm

You crack me up Kozo and I appreciate it… Will be catching up soon. TY!!!! 🙂

  16. 27/12/2012 11:19 pm

Kozo is right on! I see you were quite a busy thinker @ noon! This too shall pass is one of my fave quotes by St. Augustine. 😉

    • 29/12/2012 11:00 am

Look at that, I love that quote too, and I had no idea it came from a saint. TY! 🙂

  17. 28/12/2012 10:30 am

Ha ha ha, well said, Elizabeth. ‘Mind your own business’ 🙂 Great post, as usual.

    • 29/12/2012 10:59 am

TY Cee! I was in a bit of a funk… yeah, I’m human. 😆 TY!

  18. 28/12/2012 11:00 am

LOVE the Haiku! AND you make it all so fun somehow 🙂
Have wanted to say those very things to some judgmental people I know!

    • 28/12/2012 11:03 am

Madhu, I’m speaking to them through this post too… This one is for all the judgmental people we know. 😆 TY!!!
