The world didn’t end as some doomsday devotees had predicted. We are still here, and the blessings and burdens remain; we can choose our perspective and plan accordingly. I like the idea of optimism as a form of grace because it takes grace to see the good in rotten situations. We all weather life’s storms … Don’t give up. Did you think the world would end? For the Eternal Optimist (EO), we live in a world without end. For the Eternal Pessimist (EP), it’s just a matter of time before we fall off the precipice. Then there is a third category – The Learned Optimist (LO) with a dash of doubt. For them, it all depends on … some intangible detail or maybe a few more facts. Perhaps that is why it’s LO not LOL! 😆 Which one are you most of the time? Are you a blend of all three? More below!

It’s raining outside and the cafe owners want more traffic. They invite you to sit under the green canopy and enjoy a glass of wine and coffee refills on the house. You will get a little bit wet, but the last time I checked, nobody had died from sitting a bit in the rain. Of course, you can sit inside and pay full fare; no freebies. Choose your day! What would you do? Happy Holiday Season to All! What are your thoughts? How Optimistic are you?

The optimist says: The end is near! The pessimist says: The world will NEVER end! 😉
Did you intentionally turn it upside down? 😆 From the point of view of the world ending, the optimist will say the world will NEVER end. If you are looking at it from say a bad event, a terrible sickness, a bad marriage etc, then I can see your point.
Yes – and it’s actually logical – both think this world is hopeless and optimist is the one who actually has some hope that it will all be over soon 😉 The pessimist assumes this misery will last forever! 🙂
Interesting way you are seeing it. However, an optimist is a person with a positive outlook so they rarely think the world is ending… They see the cup as half full not half empty. I’m an optimist, and I don’t see the world as hopeless or ending any day soon. 🙂
That’s my cynical worldview 😉

I love this post. When I was little and things were going poorly my mother’s favorite thing to say was, “Don’t worry. It’ll be better tomorrow.” And it WAS! And it still always is. I had no choice but to grow up an optimist.
Que sera sera, my mom said often. I’m optimistic and sometimes with a dash of doubt. TY! 😉

Optimist, definitely. I was born on the bright side, and I consider it one of my greatest gifts. One of the trappings of optimism is gratitude – if one believes in a “giver” – and that leads to joy. What a wonderful gift. I do, at times, sink into depression, but it’s an I-can’t-access-the-joy-I-know-is-there kind of funk, not a funk that doubts the joy. Thanks for the post.

Hi Petchary, I believe it is possible to have some cynicism about life and still appreciate all that keeps it going… I don’t see a huge conflict there as I don’t see optimism as Pollyanna-rish, but a balanced positive view on life. not so naive… 🙂 TY!

I’d probably go inside if it was cold – on a hot day I’d stay outside in the rain 😉
I’ve known some people who have had dreadful lives and are still very optimistic and I’ve known people who have had great lives and are awful pessimists. Me? I’m the eternal optimist 😉
I’d do same and skip the cold… Yes, I’ve known people with so much who are pessimists and good things keep following them around … interesting 🙁
Moderation is key. Too far either way is too much.
True… but maybe now and again we can have a little mermaid indulgence, no? 🙂

World without end… It’s a great title and the very title of Ken Folett’s awesome book! Anyway, that’s a powerful message, thoughts: optimism! We choose what to be, how to be.

Am usually the pessimist, but I never expected the world to end. I am absolutely sure the Mayans never meant that in the first place 😀
Let us hope they were talking about the end of a greedy, zaded world and the beginning of a golden era. Not holding my breath though 🙂

I was born a pessimist. okay, okay, pessimists are not born! rather, was raised in a somewhat pessimistic atmosphere. I married an optimist and slowly, SLOWLY I can see how to be an optimist, with the help of hubby and my life coach. how’s that for convoluted? 😀 So, I’m sort of with Tilly Bud above 🙂
