Generally, I don’t like surprises, but we all have to live through them… The thing about surprises is that you have no way of controlling or directing the unfolding drama/event/item and sometimes, they stink or are hurtful. However, an amusing surprise will always put a smile on our face.
Above, the L.L. Bean car, caught cruising on the Mass Turnpike (highway), made me laugh. It was shaped as their classic, all time favorite boot. The color, the trim, the look was perfect and a huge surprise.
One winter night, I was driving home from Upstate NY when I saw strange lights glowing in the woods. As I approached, they grew brighter, more colorful, and looked like floating saucers. I was surprised because they were in the middle of nowhere. Months later, I found out that the land belonged to an artist who liked to create unusual installations and display them… It was a conversation piece!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Surprise… Hair and more
At a conference I attended early this year, I met the lovely lady above. As we chatted, she mentioned how long it took to wash/dry her hair. I thought the time-frame (3-4 hours) was outrageous; given that her hair was in a bun and didn’t look long enough… Well, she showed me why it took hours to wash. Her hair touched her feet when she unwrapped it. Another surprise!
At a concert, I was looking at the crowd milling around below, when I noticed that young man in a colorful wig and a white t-shirt/mask that covered his face. The surprise was how he could see or even breathe in that outfit.
The holograph is a three-dimensional image recorded by a camera on light-sensitive material. The one you see is of top British model, Kate Moss, floating like a blue ghost at the Alexander McQueen show. It was both surprising and bizarre. More below.
