Weekly Photo Challenge: Changing Seasons

07/12/2012

“To be interested in the changing seasons is a happier state of mind than to be hopelessly in love with spring.” George Santayana

Weekly Photo Challenge: Changing Seasons… Winter

Ecclesiastes 3: 1-8
For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;

Changing Seasons: I remember when I first moved to New York, the seasons changed in perfect order; fall, winter, spring and summer. Each season delineated by specific changes in the temperature and terrain. Like clockwork, we knew what to expect, wear, eat and see. With climate changes/global warming, our weather has become increasingly erratic. We now get 60 degree temps in December and hail in June…

Spring passes and one remembers one’s innocence. Summer passes and one remembers one’s exuberance. Autumn passes and one remembers one’s reverence. Winter passes and one remembers one’s perseverance.” Yoko Ono

Weekly Photo Challenge: Changing Seasons... Summer

Weekly Photo Challenge: Changing Seasons… Summer

A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

We never imagined hurricanes would soon become part of our regional experience… Seasons do change and sometimes in the strangest ways. For this challenge, I’m revisiting the essence of each of the seasons as I have captured them; choosing to remember them not as erratic or unpredictable as they have become. I’m thinking more carefully about climate change and its impact on our landscape, and it concerns me. Change is inevitable, I know, and we must remain flexible while working to protect our environment… What about you? How did you do this one? More below!

“Love, all alike, no season knows, nor clime, nor hours, days, months, which are the rags of time” John Donne

Weekly Photo Challenge: Changing Seasons... Croton Aqueduct year round

Weekly Photo Challenge: Changing Seasons… Croton Aqueduct year round

A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;

Summer is one of my favorite times of the year because of the incredible range of blooming flowers. Plus, it brings back memories of some of the happiest times in my life. I love the Croton Aqueduct and take long walks on it all year round. Above are shots captured throughout the year; showing the aqueduct marching to the drum of seasonal change.

“For him in vain the envious seasons roll, Who bears eternal summer in his soul.” Oliver Wendell Holmes

Weekly Photo Challenge: Changing Seasons... Fall delights

Weekly Photo Challenge: Changing Seasons… Fall delights

Weekly Photo Challenge: Changing Seasons... Spring has sprung

Weekly Photo Challenge: Changing Seasons… Spring has sprung

A time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace.

I love Fall because the temperature cools and all that green foliage changes into the most spectacular colors; from gold to the deepest rust… Heavenly. Spring puts a bounce in our step as we hop over puddles and watch the early buds bloom. For me, spring is also always about my bleeding heart plants. My prayer is that we treat our seasons with care and consideration; a sustainable planet benefits all. This has been a thought-provoking challenge. Hope you liked the CHANGING SEASONS I shared and I’ll soon be on my way to visit and catch up on your posts; yet another endless but rewarding task. What are your thoughts? What photos did you share on CHANGING SEASONS to fit the challenge? Was it easy/hard to find photos that supported your perspective on the subject? Were you drawn to certain types of photos for the prompt? Do share? Thank you! Have an awesome weekend! 🙂

*Please bear with me as I continue to catch up on reading and commenting on your blogs… I’m halfway there. Thank you all for your patience! 🙂

My fellow bloggers were equally creative with their selections. I will list some when Zemanta offers them up! I added a few from WP Daily Post below. (I will update it and add more). We all appreciate trackbacks/ping-backs and Likes from fellow bloggers too! Check out how others interpreted the theme – CHANGING SEASONS – also below. ***

This post was inspired by a prompt from WP Daily Post: Weekly Photo Challenge: Changing Seasons. Changing Seasons. It’s the first week of December, and where I live, on the west coast of the US, the weather has cooled, the trees are bare, and the sky seems much more volatile and moody. Here, we’re saying goodbye to fall and hello to winter. In other parts of the world, it’s snowing. And for our neighbors down south, it’s almost summer. In a new post created specifically for this challenge, share a picture that means CHANGING SEASONS to you!

Positive Motivation Tip: For everything there is a season… Each season provides experiences that shape and etch memories in our hearts. Change is inevitable and our response to it is to remain flexible… and grow

Elizabeth, I LOVE these colors. You’ve truly captured the changing of the seasons and shown their beauty.
And the climate change is tangible in all parts of the world. Change is natural, but these changes are not natural, they are partly man-made. But we are part of nature too…

    • 08/12/2012 11:21 am

TY! True, we are adding to the demise of our planet and we can change that too… Sadly, some still don’t believe in climatic changes. 🙁

  2. 08/12/2012 4:28 am

I am very much an all seasons gal. I love the groupings of all these photos. I can never decide which is my favorite season. When I was a kid, it was summer. But now I vacillate between spring and autumn. I am thankful for all of them though.

    • 08/12/2012 11:22 am

TY for your feedback! I’m grateful for all the seasons too but I do love summer and fall a tad more… 🙂

  3. 08/12/2012 4:28 am

How beautiful! The flowers are so nice

  4. 08/12/2012 4:32 am

SUPER!! How do you manage to place more than one gallery per post or am I missing something… anyway, you’ve done a great job on this one!! Thanks,

    • 08/12/2012 11:25 am

TY aj! I use picasa or pixlr express for the individual collages I create. I like the WP gallery too but it works best when we are using just one set of photos. 🙂

  5. 08/12/2012 4:45 am

wow….that beautiful colors .. and much love!!!

  6. 08/12/2012 4:46 am

I feel rejuvenated by this post – thank you!

    • 08/12/2012 11:26 am

TY Julie! Must pop by to catch up on Ming and Anthony… Hope all is well with you and yours… 🙂

  7. 08/12/2012 4:46 am

    Wonderful colors captured… 🙂

Agree, we have to live and use the nature around us – but never forgets that we must use it in a way so there’s something left for our children and their children and so on… 🙂

    • 08/12/2012 11:27 am

Yes… and remembering that legacy will help us sustain our planet for generations to come… We must! TY! 🙂

  8. 08/12/2012 5:11 am

I learn so much and get so much pleasure from your blogs THANK YOU!

    • 08/12/2012 11:28 am

TY Willowdot! I’m glad you enjoyed this post! 🙂

  9. 08/12/2012 5:13 am

Gorgeous shots! The falling snow actually enhances their brilliance!

    • 08/12/2012 11:29 am

TY and I was wondering what the effect would be… I’m glad you observed its impact! 🙂

  10. 08/12/2012 5:21 am

very nice… love all the representations of the seasons… aren’t we fortunate that God gave us such beauty!

    • 08/12/2012 11:30 am

Yes indeed we are truly blessed to have the seasons… we must now ensure that they last and not become one huge, endless hurricane. TY!

  11. 08/12/2012 7:00 am

Each montage showcases your artistic eye. Beautiful!

    • 08/12/2012 11:31 am

TY Karen… I must admit that I love creating them and combining the pieces and mixing up the color schemes… I must have a bit of the interior decorator in me. 🙂

  12. 08/12/2012 9:12 am

Wow! You hit all of the season on the collages. I really love what you did.

    • 08/12/2012 11:33 am

TY Jackie! It was fun to do and I had the photos for it… It also gave me an idea for a photography project so I’m grateful for this one too. 🙂

  13. 08/12/2012 9:20 am

Sometimes the seasons change daily. I drove my daughter back to DC over Thanksgiving. The weather was beautiful–like spring. The day I life, winter rolled in. Never boring!

    • 08/12/2012 11:34 am

TY Jacqui! I remember a day when it was cold in the morning sunny in midday, rainy and then snowy late evening. 😆

        Right…I remember it… TY! 🙂

Yes, I remember and you have a looooooooooong, long memory… 😆
        Thank you! 🙂

    • 08/12/2012 11:35 am

Hi Frizztext! Yes, I remember that song as it was huge hit way back when… Thanks for sharing it again. 🙂

      • 10/12/2012 7:38 am

thank you, Eliz, for converting again a simple photographer’s topic into a psychological level: a biography has some “seasons” too, beside my own, I can’t forget some of your “seasons”: 1 – as a child lost on a long African beach (right?) 2 – the last evening of departure from U.K. headed to U.S. (there was an accident, right?) 3 – your experiences in Manhattan Alvin Ailey (?) ballet ? Sade stage performances etc. …

  15. 08/12/2012 10:43 am

Eliz–I did like looking at all your sun-shiny photos because it’s been so dreary here in South Jersey lately. I have made peace with winter, but will always long for that “bounce in my step” in spring!

    • 08/12/2012 11:37 am

      Hi Terri!
It’s dreary here too but it does vacillate a bit more than it used to. Yesterday, it was sunny and then cold… It changes daily! TY! 🙂

  16. 08/12/2012 4:47 pm

This is such a beautiful colorful post, Liz. You’re amazing (and such an inspiration!) 😀

    • 12/12/2012 3:51 pm

TY Dianne! Once I discovered the joy of collages, I’ve gotten into it… such fun! 🙂

  17. 08/12/2012 5:01 pm

Sensational!!! I love the varying phot galleries! So delightful!

    • 12/12/2012 3:52 pm

TY Nicole! This was a wonderful challenge topic too… and easy to do. 🙂

  18. 08/12/2012 6:29 pm

All your photos … Unbelievable. The weather God certainly has been erratic across the board. We really should have listened to Al Gore. 😀 It hurts to think that the world is gradually deteriorating and people are not even so concerned about it. People should be alarmed by now – those little trash, those little trash in the right bins, those little trash that aren’t trash yet. Little things that people should be thinking twice before just throwing anywhere.
The trash I see when I hike (GRRRR) I mean look at your pictures. These images are what we are going to miss by those little mistakes.

    • 12/12/2012 3:55 pm

TY Rommel and you are like me… I get so incensed when I go on a hike and there’s trash that people didn’t pick up… I hope and pray that leaders around the world would be collaborate more and be conscientious about protecting our planet… We need more involvement from them. 🙂

  19. 08/12/2012 7:14 pm

What a wonderful post, Elizabeth – and beautiful galleries to take us through the seasons! Nicely done! 😉

    • 08/12/2012 7:18 pm

Also thought you might enjoy seeing the parallels to a post I did a while ago… not in regard to global climate change, but to the quotes and media! http://theretiringsort.com/2012/10/02/to-every-thing-there-is-a-season/

      • 08/12/2012 8:04 pm

TY for the feedback and I will click over to read the post your suggested. 🙂

      • 08/12/2012 8:15 pm

I love the way you worked the verses from Ecclesiastes through your post. And I really like the message as well… really well done! 😉

      • 12/12/2012 3:58 pm

Ecclesiastes is one of my favorite Bible verses so I was glad to add it… TY again! 🙂

    • 12/12/2012 3:56 pm

TY for your feedback… This was a topic close to my heart, so I had some fun with it… 🙂

  20. 08/12/2012 9:09 pm

This was like a mosaic of beaufiful pictures flowing round in time past and present. Enjoyed your seasons and, yes, loving all seasons is much more freeing than loving just one as George Santayana said. His quote will stay with me 🙂

    • 12/12/2012 4:16 pm

I love his quote too and though I’m partial to some of the seasons, I totally get the point of appreciating the best that each season offers. TY! 🙂

  21. 09/12/2012 4:22 am

I love the arrangement of the seasons in pictures – simply beautiful!

    • 12/12/2012 4:17 pm

TY for your feedback… I enjoyed visiting with you too. 🙂

  22. 09/12/2012 7:11 am

What a wonderful post! Beautiful pictures that capture the seasons so perfectly!

    • 12/12/2012 4:19 pm

TY for your feedback… This was a fun one to do… and easy for a change. Phew! 😆

  23. 09/12/2012 7:17 am

Love your beautiful collages, Eliz and the way you put the post together. The way you interspersed the Bible quote was great.

    • 12/12/2012 4:21 pm

TY for your comment. I was thinking of what would go well with my seasonal photos and I remembered the verses … One of my favorite in the Bible. 🙂

What a great collection of photographs! I love summer for the flowers, too, but somehow, spring — after the rains and cold weather — is always my favorite. That is when the hills in our area turn green once again! Yes, for everything there is a season…and a reason.

    • 12/12/2012 4:24 pm

TY Jane! There are things I love about each season and some have to do with all those colorful blooms and foliage… Yes, I agree. There is a season… and a reason. 🙂

  25. 09/12/2012 12:42 pm

Your photos always awe me Elizabeth! The collages are beautiful. And, climate change is scary as hell.
    thanks

TY Babs! Climate change worries me a lot… I hope we can reclaim our earth and heal it. 🙂

  26. 09/12/2012 12:49 pm

Lovely post. The flowers are so beautiful, but I’m drawn to the peacefulness of the aqueduct.

    • 12/12/2012 4:26 pm

TY Maddie! it is a peaceful place to walk on and, even when there are lots of people on it(often), it feels private and peaceful for each of us. It remains one of my favorite trails… 😉

  27. 09/12/2012 1:44 pm

    I love the collages, but I really appreciate the connection to global warming. This makes for a great introduction to your FOCUS: PEACE post above. You are amazing, Elizabeth. Thank you for the work you are doing for all of us/the world. {{{Hug}}}

TY so much… I was trying to figure out a way to include Halloween and the pumpkins came to mind… and then the rest. Glad you liked that. 😉
