Reflections: Post Hurricane Sandy…

Reflections: Post Hurricane Sandy…

Reflections: Post Hurricane Sandy…

Thank you everyone for your well wishes and kind comments… My heart goes out to all who have lost so much; lives, homes, memories… I am deeply touched and saddened by the devastation that Mother Nature has wrought… but we shall all recover. Today, I ventured outside after being cut off for two days, and what I saw on the news and on the internet made me weep. We don’t have power, cell or internet access (pales in comparison to many). We have toppled trees and branches everywhere and the possibility that power won’t return for a while; so I stopped by my local Barnes & Noble to write this quick post. When feasible, I will stop by and thank all of you who left messages and comments. A big thank you to all who have helped the many; govt, 1st responders, news outlets, red cross, kind folk… Blessings to all.

“The wound is the place where the Light enters you.” Rumi

Reflections: Post Hurricane Sandy…

When the sky darkened around me and the winds screamed angrily, I realized how petty the things that usually bother me had become. When we are under the peril of a thunderstorm that is wrecking havoc all around us… how can we not call on that which is mightier than us? Stay safe and blessings to all. I love you!

The human heart has a way of making itself large again even after it’s been broken into a million pieces.” Robert James Waller

Reflections: Post Hurricane Sandy…

I will follow up tomorrow as they are telling us to wrap it up… Stay safe all and prayers and blessings to all who are hurting… Thank you again to all who have shown compassion and caring…

*Please bear with me as I catch up on your blogs and commenting… I’m back on track with reading and responding to your blogs; albeit at a slow pace. Thank you all for your patience! 🙂

Praying that the land heals and hands hold stronger than ever. Blessings.

Amen! It has been an epic tragedy…. may all find solace and recover.

  2. 31/10/2012 7:18 pm

So glad to know that you’re safe, Elizabeth. The news I’ve been watching on CNN, is absolutely harrowing and heartbreaking. Thankfully my family in NJ are fine, and a kind friend has loaned them a small generator which will keep the fridge and furnace going until power is restored. It’s wonderful to see how people are pulling together through the tragedy. The strength of the human spirit is greater than we can ever imagine, and shows itself at its best during such times as this. Hugs to you.

    • 14/11/2012 2:18 pm

Glad to hear your family is safe It has lived up to the expected outcomes and my heart hurts for the many that lost so much. TY!

  3. 31/10/2012 7:20 pm

Oh dear, Eliz, I had no idea you were and are in the midst of the storm. The devastation I saw on television sent shivers up my spine. My prayers go up for you and your family.
    Your Canadian friend and neighbor.

    • 14/11/2012 2:19 pm

TY Tracy! We were spared the full blast of horror but lost power for almost a week… Sad for all who lost so much.

  4. 31/10/2012 7:22 pm

I feel so helpless. I’ve been peeled to the television, switching from WPIX to WWOR — the only NYC stations I can get here — and feeling more and more powerless. NYC looks like it was almost swallowed up by the storm. Glad to know you’re okay, Elizabeth. Almost everyone I know’s without power – well, except for those in Harlem.

New York City will recover, I know it will. Please stay strong, Elizabeth!

    • 14/11/2012 2:20 pm

We are doing okay and the recovery continues for many families who have nothing left.

      • 17/11/2012 6:28 pm

It is amazing how long it takes to get our pieces out. I have not had any time to write while I’ve been in Seattle at a conference,. I can barely scrape up enough time to reply to comments! YIKEs!! Thanks for yours!!! 🙂

  24. 01/11/2012 6:00 am

I’m really glad you are Ok. I didn’t even know you where in New York. What a terrible experience and more for some people. My heart goes out to them and you. I hope your life returns to normal soon, and that you can get the warmth and food we all need in this weather

    • 14/11/2012 2:39 pm

Yes, I’m here and parts of my area bore some of the brunt of this hurricane… TY for the kind words.

  25. 01/11/2012 6:47 am

So many emotions filtered through my mind, exhausting me. My family and I were more fortunate than most. Our home shook and trees bent. A leak here and there, but I feel like I had an angel on my shoulder ( maybe both shoulders! ) We were informed that we probably lost our house in Brigantine, NJ but two days later we heard much better news. No power, missing siding, fence that needs mending, garage that we can swim in, but our previous little bungalow by the bay survived! Yes, Virginia. There is a God. 🙂
Well wishes to all. Happy for you, Elizabeth.

    • 14/11/2012 2:41 pm

Glad to know you were fine too… God is good all the time. Sad for the losses… TY for thinking of me.

  27. 01/11/2012 7:24 am

Glad to know that you’re safe Eliz! We ve been following the news here too – devastating and yet, humbling- the power of nature.

    • 14/11/2012 2:43 pm

TY and nature showed her power in such a destructive way… My prayers go out to all who are still hurting.

  28. 01/11/2012 7:42 am

Relieved to see you are safe. It was hard to watch Sandy destroy everything in her path.

It will take some time for the Eastern Seaboard to recover. Your officials seem pretty determined and focused. I can only hope that people will not expect everything to go back to normal in a very short time. The devastation is pretty severe in some places. This will take time. Just like the economy. But we will get there.

    • 14/11/2012 2:44 pm

They are doing the best they can to get the power on and the recovery process moving… TY for your kind feedback! 🙂

  29. 01/11/2012 7:58 am

  34. 01/11/2012 12:54 pm

Unbelievable tragedy for the folks on the east coast — I can’t watch much of the news coverage — so sad. But I.m thankful for your post and praying that normal life soon returns. Take care…

    • 14/11/2012 7:42 pm

TY Natalie… I really appreciate you stopping by. Be blessed!

  39. 01/11/2012 2:32 pm

It is really tragic – and natural disasters (or rather the aftermath) are so emotionally exhausting, often causing depression. We know how it feels as we get hit by hurricanes almost every year – some years worse than others. You just have to pull yourself back up on your feet again… We had no power for two days, but we did have water. Many other poor, rural Jamaicans have neither and others have lost all their homes and belongings. But you will pull through again. I do hope you get power and water back soon! Our thoughts are with you and I am so glad that you are safe.

    • 14/11/2012 7:44 pm

TY and we are pulling through… My heart goes out to all who are still suffering the aftermath of Sandy. 🙁

  40. 01/11/2012 5:02 pm

I share your sentiments exactly Elizabeth. We had a fabulous day today finally being able to get to Ocean City and assess damages to the house…to my amazement it is unscathed! I have never been more grateful and felt such a true feeling of blessings when I look around at the devastation up and down the coast. We are truly blessed and I want to share that blessing with you and yours.
