Haiku: Autumn…

“By all these lovely tokens, September days are here. With summer’s best of weather, and autumn’s best of cheer.” Helen Hunt Jackson

Haiku: Autumn… From fecundity to barren soon…

Brown, gold, shades of rust
Falling leaves bite dust at dawn
At night, barren land…

The fall is a time of shifting in our lives; a shifting of the inner and outer landscapes that fill our vision with color and promise. It is the undressing of nature’s beloved children that fascinates us; naked trees, land and flora. The temporary barrenness reminds us to cherish the periods of fecundity when they come… For everything there is a season. More below!

“Autumn wins you best by this its mute appeal to sympathy for its decay.” Robert Browning

Haiku: Autumn… Colors of fallen leaves

Autumn’s torn jacket
Made from branches, sticks and stones
Snares the common cold

I’d like to imagine a fall without colds and the usual sniffles, but it is a form of cleansing for us too… Just like the earth strips herself of hue and foliage, we are stripped of the mucus that weighs us down… just a thought. What about you? What are your thoughts? Are you ready for fall/autumn? Do you rituals you perform to prepare for fall, like packing up summer gear? What attracts your attention in nature? Do share! Thank you. :-)

  4. Gorgeous photo. Autumn is my favorite season, although I love the springtime too. I love the smell of tomato plants as I harvest the fruit, and warm sunny days and cool nights. And the smell of MacIntosh apples and fresh beaked pies. Most of all, I love the fall colors.

  5. I am looking forward to a little chill in the air, wearing boots, maybe some rain, fall vegetables to cook with, braising in my Le Creuset…!
