“For most people, we often marvel at the beauty of a sunrise or the magnificence of a full moon, but it is impossible to fathom the magnitude of the universe that surrounds us.” Richard H. Baker

Reflections: On Savoring SuperMoons…

I love the Supermoon and its unique qualities and energies.  So you can imagine my delight when I read about an impending Supermoon; scheduled to brighten the night sky on May 5th. A SuperMoon is a term coined by astrologer Richard Nolle, in 1979, for a phenomenon that occurs when the  moon appears to be both larger than the norm and closer to the earth.  It is according to notes in Wikipedia “the coincidence of a full moon or a new moon with the closest approach the Moon makes to the Earth on its elliptical orbit, resulting in the largest apparent size of the moon’s disk as seen from Earth.” The technical name is perigee-syzygy of the Earth-Moon-Sun system. I found some examples on NASA and have shared same with you. The videos share vital information and the poetry compliment the moon in all her magnificence.

“Don’t tell me the moon is shining; show me the glint of light on broken glass.”Anton Chekhov

Her lips of amber never part;
But what must be the smile

Were such her silver will!
And what a privilege to be
But the remotest star!
For certainly her way might pass
Beside your twinkling door.
Her bonnet is the firmament,
The universe her shoe,
The stars the trinkets at her belt,
Her dimities of blue.

If I could sit on a balcony and gaze at the full moon, I would… More below ;-)
