Weekly Photo Challenge: Sun…

20/04/2012

“Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth.” Gautama Buddha

Weekly Photo Challenge: Sun... Before the rainstorm that never came.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Sun... an idyllic moment on the Hudson River

Weekly Photo Challenge: Sun... Here comes the sun...

The BeatlesHere Comes The Sun

“Every morning in Africa, a Gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning a Lion wakes up. It knows it must outrun the slowest Gazelle or it will starve to death. It doesn’t matter whether you are a Lion or a Gazelle… when the sun comes up, you’d better be running.” Anon

The sun and I have crossed paths before … for a photo challenge. We met at sunset. It was pretty demanding, and failed attempts lay everywhere. I love the sun; even worship at her doorstep. But, I am yet to capture her essence, her sultry, shimmering presence, her spherical form in all its glory. Until I do so, please accept what you see here as a sampling of the Sun…

“See how nature – trees, flowers, grass – grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence…we need silence to be able to touch souls.” Mother Teresa of Calcutta

Weekly Photo Challenge: Sun... Even the ducks were silent at the sight of the rising sun...

Weekly Photo Challenge: Sun... Suspend all thoughts. Look closely. I'm the squirrel in the shot.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Sun... Just chillin'

Weekly Photo Challenge: Sun... Yes, I am the sun not the moon... in the afternoon

I’ve always loved the name Sunny. However, ironically, all the Sunny’s I know are either very moody or quite dead. The sun is a powerful opponent. Yet, the rays of the sun shine equally on all below her without prejudice… May we find that equanimity towards our fellow men/women. More below! 🙂

“The sun shines and warms and lights us and we have no curiosity to know why this is so; but we ask the reason of all evil, of pain, and hunger, and mosquitoes and silly people.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

Weekly Photo Challenge: Sun... And they said the sun is fun... maybe

Weekly Photo Challenge: Sun... I spy I...on a waterfront

Weekly Photo Challenge: Sun... Why the sun?

It seems odd that something so huge and available can be quite elusive to photograph in daylight. But I can understand the prevailing message that the Sun is God. Therefore,  any claims to capturing all and everything the sun stands for is a Sisyphean feat. Enjoy your weekend! 🙂

Hope you enjoyed this! What are your thoughts? What photos depicting Sun did you find? Was it easy/hard to find photos that made sense of your views on the subject of the Sun? Were you drawn to certain types of photos for the prompt? Do share? Thank you! :-) ;-)

My fellow bloggers were equally creative with their selections. I listed several via Zemanta below. I appreciate TRACKBACKS/PINGBACKS & LIKES from fellow bloggers too! Check out how others interpreted the theme Sun  below. ***

This post was inspired by a prompt from WP Daily Post: Weekly Photo Challenge: Sun. We’ve done sunset before, but what about when the sun, in its full glory, is the feature of your photo? Here’s a picture of a Roman alleyway, and the sun transforms this normal scene into something magical with its rays.  Share a picture with the SUN!

Positive Motivation Tip: The rays of the sun shine equally on all below her without prejudice… May we find that equanimity towards our fellow men/women.

Funny, I kept wanting the clouds to move because it was in the middle of the afternoon and the pictures looked so dark… Now, I can appreciate it a bit more. TY! 🙂

  14. 21/04/2012 8:32 am

You sure do have a lot of ‘sunny’ shots to share. Great job! 🙂

  18. 21/04/2012 1:10 pm

Great post. Love your photos, quotes, and your motivational tip. Especially like the Anon’s quote. Thanks for sharing your insight.

    • 22/04/2012 6:57 pm

The Anon is my favorite… all about survival of the fittest. Talk about perspective eh? TY! 🙂

  19. 21/04/2012 1:21 pm

It almost goes without saying that I have linked the weekly challenge to my garden again. As you say taking photos of the sun during the daytime proves elusive so I have just taken photos of sun shining on subjects.

    • 22/04/2012 6:57 pm

I liked your take on it too… This was challenging for me and I appreciate the feedback. 🙂

  20. 21/04/2012 3:09 pm

Nice quote about the lion & gazelle. I like your Hudson River shot, true it’s not easy to capture the essence of the sun.

    • 22/04/2012 6:58 pm

TY! I like that shot too… serene and all but yes, that quote stopped me in my tracks… food for thought. 🙂

  21. 21/04/2012 3:51 pm

My fave here is the ‘just chillin!’ 🙂

    • 22/04/2012 7:00 pm

You like that one, eh? TY and yes, the Sunny thing came to mind and still makes me smile… true too. 🙂

  23. 21/04/2012 6:32 pm

I have been singing “Here Comes the Sun” all weekend!! Nice.

TY and you have done same. Hope all is well. Blessings! 🙂

  26. 21/04/2012 9:18 pm

It is one of the most difficult subjects to photograph well.
And isn’t it ironic that we still haven’t managed how to harness and store its energy for any length of time

    • 21/04/2012 9:37 pm

True… a lot to be learned from that challenge alone 😉

  27. 21/04/2012 9:58 pm

You captured a difficult photo subject very well…and I’m impressed with how you keep up with these challenging topics! You are so committed! Debra

I prefer the laconic truth of Africa – the Asian wisdom attitude was always too much for me
