Weekly Photo Challenge: Two Subjects...
When I saw the Photo Challenge for this week – Two Subjects – I was nicely surprised. Yesterday, in Manhattan, as I waited in the lobby of a building for an appointment, I looked out the huge picture windows and two food stands on the street caught my eye. First, it was the rich and colorful fruit that pulled me in, and next was the juxtaposition of a hotdog stand next to a fruit stand. I rarely see those two combinations on a NYC street and so I reached for my camera to capture the scene outside. Both men saw me aiming my camera at them and quickly turned their faces away. They didn’t mind me taking a picture of their carts, as long as I didn’t include their faces in the shot… I’ve added shots of their separate carts for greater detail. A classic NY moment.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Two Subjects...
When I shared my photo series on the birds at my local Sam’s Club, I mentioned that a lonely crow was hanging around trying to join in the food fray. He was a determined little bird and even when several of the seagulls yelled at him to move on, he kept coming back for food. He had a friend or two in the crowd and when I saw him perched on the roof of the store watching the action below with a seagull for company, I captured this shot… two subjects.
The man with the plastic drums was quite proficient at his craft, and attracted attention whenever he started drumming. I like that there are plastic buckets of varying sizes in front of him, and attentive listeners behind him; a subject attracting subjects.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Two Subjects...
What I liked about this shot, which was taken from the High Line Park in the Chelsea area of Manhattan, is that there is a huge sign in front of that new apartment building advertising the restaurant across the street. However, the rendition of the buildings shown in the ad drawing excludes the newly constructed blue/black/white building. Sort of a reinvented scene within a scene. I’ve added a shot that shows the restaurant’s location. More below!
