Weekly Photo Challenge: Between…

23/12/2011

“In the universe, there are things that are known, and things that are unknown, and in between, there are doors.” William Blake

Weekly Photo Challenge: Between... Lights. Camera. Action! Heading for the stairway between buildings

Weekly Photo Challenge: Between… Bridge between worlds, between buildings....

Between life and death is everything else. I tried to capture the rest in these pictures. I hope you like them. I love William Blake’s quote above as it speaks to the doors to life that we open as we venture into the world… Symbolically, those doors can be pathways, stairways, bridges, props, gates, love, food and everything in between; it’s imperative that we enjoy the life we have. Above, my friends were walking towards the stairway in Caen and I loved the way the street lights hung over them and how they were framed between the buildings. The passageway/bridge connects the Chelsea Market building with another in Manhattan.

“The difference between what we do and what we are capable of doing would suffice to solve most of the world’s problem.” Mohandas Gandhi

Weekly Photo Challenge: Between… Drinks between family and friends...

Weekly Photo Challenge: Between… Famous McDonald's sign between many others in Paris...

Between friends, there is always time to gather and share food, good wine and perhaps a few … secrets. I took this picture at the Met Museum’s members dining room. The folks in this shot were having such fun and I loved the way the wine and water glasses were in the middle of their festivities; a testament to their jolly good time. Now if we could all enjoy each other and not fight so much in the world, anything would be possible. More below. 😉

“What difference is there between us, save a restless dream that follows my soul but fears to come near you?” Khalil Gibran

Weekly Photo Challenge: Between… Between the customer and seller - dessert.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Between... Lady of the fountain between pathway at Straus Park in Manhattan, NY

Nothing should stand between us and our favorite desserts. Dessert is one of my favorite foods and I’ll eat it anytime. Even though my mother stressed the importance of eating our vegetables and other foods before sweets, I’ll eat dessert first whenever possible. Above, Patisserie Paul was my favorite hangout in Caen and they had the best fruit tarts. Straus Park is a beautiful oasis in the middle of a busy Broadway on the upper Westside. I love the layout and people gather there often. Always More below… 😉

“If you enter this world knowing you are loved and you leave this world knowing the same, then everything that happens in between can be dealt with.” Michael Jackson

Weekly Photo Challenge: Between… Playful Janet between her dancers...

Weekly Photo Challenge: Between… Playful parent enjoying seat between sofas on a theater prop

Playfulness between moments of serious work is important to our mental and emotional health. We spend our lives chasing after our dreams and looking for love, yet we are love and we can connect with that place through play…  Our eyes light up, our loving side emerges and who knows the rest… 😉 Above, Janet Jackson during a playful dance scene at her summer concert. During my visit with one of my kids to Reed College in Portland for the Accepted Students weekend, one of the parents in my group hopped on this prop in the theater center. He made us all smile… Beautiful.

“There is a very fine line between loving life and being greedy for it.”  Maya Angelou

Weekly Photo Challenge: Between… Bronx Zoo - Guinea fowl between Zebras...

Weekly Photo Challenge: Between… People between passageway at Detroit Airport

I love the Bronx Zoo and would visit again in the summer time. There is so much to see at the zoo, I could spend hours there animal watching.  On my last visit, I took tons of pictures of the wildlife; this one of a guinea fowl between the zebras fits this post. Yes, I had to take that picture of the passageway at Detroit Airport because as you walked through it, the psychedelic lights changed colors and soft music played. I loved the whole experience that I stopped and quickly took a couple of shots… My interlude between terminals. Hope you enjoyed your visit. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! 🙂   What about you? What did your Between photo(s)look like to you? Was it easy/hard to find the right photos for your examples of Between? Were you drawn to specific examples for the prompt? Do share? Thank you!  Happy Holidays! 🙂

This post was inspired by a prompt from WP Daily Post: Weekly Photo Challenge: Between… Between. This time of year, we find ourselves in an interesting position of reflecting on the year gone by, as well as anticipating the upcoming year. Share a picture that means between to you

Delightful photos! You took the “between” prompt and made some wonderful observations. Your positive spirit comes through even these…I felt that you showed connection–to nature, to spirit, to peace, to joy, all while highlighting space caught between two or more dissimilar things. Your photos were poetry. Happy holidays to you, Elizabeth. You are a rare individual. Blessings, Debra

  17. 24/12/2011 9:24 pm

Just beautiful . In between the lines are words that refreshes the heart. This one made me really think, “In the universe, there are things that are known, and things that are unknown, and in between, there are doors.” William Blake….such doors can lead to something great and all we need is try. Happy Holidays my friend.

    • 25/12/2011 11:44 pm

    Hi Eliz

Thank you for your lovely Christmas message over at my blog. I’ve been taking a rest from blogging.

I’ve been spending some time over at some Steiner/Waldorf forums. They say that the veils between the Spirit world and ours are thinner at this time of year. I was reminded of this with your writing about bridges and between.

You may enjoy this work by Lynn Jericho on the Inner Solstice innerchristmasmessages.com I think it’s quite lovely.

Is your work done on the 31st of December? Or are you going to keep posting everyday? I hope you keep this marvellous body of work for everyone to refer to in years to come. I love all the quotes, and I am looking up your past posts for my inner work.

    Blessings to you and yours.

    Narelle

    • 26/12/2011 7:48 pm

      Hi Narelle,
Delighted to hear from you… it’s been a while and I appreciate your visit. The Steiner/Waldorf forums must be enriching for you… I’m glad as it does sound wonderful. TY for the link as I will check it out.
I will be done with the Challenge at the end of the year and while I will write every day in 2012, I might not post every day for a variety of reasons…. But all is in God’s hands… I am trusting the inner guidance on this. Thank you for stopping in and many blessings to you. Naturally, I’ll still visit your blog and all the others to support your work. TY!
      Stay inspired! 🙂

Love the Detroit airport shot for some reasons – not sure why particularly.

Elizabeth, forgive me, but I am having terrible trouble commenting since our internet got slowed. I may have to try to catch up after the monthly allowance is reset!

    • 26/12/2011 7:42 pm

No worries dear. I understand. With the holidays and kids at home, our connections have slowed a bit too… All in good time. TY for the blog love! 🙂

  21. 26/12/2011 7:29 pm

Pretty comprehensive collection and interpretation of between.

    • 26/12/2011 7:41 pm

TY and I look forward to seeing your interpretation too! 🙂

  22. 27/12/2011 5:08 am

    nice!

  23. 27/12/2011 11:12 am

Wonderful photos and as always great quotes – I especially love the Blake one, which inspired the 60s/70s rock band The Doors…

    • 28/12/2011 8:29 pm

TY and WoW! I didn’t know that quote had something to do with the history of The Doors… Glad to have learned that! 🙂
