“Memory is a way of holding on to the things you love, the things you are, the things you never want to lose.” Kevin Arnold
Not long ago, I shared some of my favorite songs. Today, I read a post, Bygones, by fellow blogger John, on Blithe and Untroubled Life that got me thinking of the powerful influence music has on our memories. When I listen to a song or hear an oldie played on the radio, I am transported back to a particular time in my life when… X happened; sometimes good and sometimes not so great times. Regardless of the emotions I recall, the songs stay with me and I can cherish them again.
Alicia Keys – Fallin’
Mary J. Blige – Family Affair
Justin Timberlake – Cry Me A River
The songs above and below bring back memories of the millennium decade and the challenges I faced. What I find remarkable now is that when I look back to that period, I see the growth and the joy I got from the songs. So we always, in hindsight, realize that our struggles were not entirely insurmountable… We conquered them … with great music to help us along the way. What about you? More below.
