Practice Compassion: Our Wellness Depends On It…

30/01/2011

” If someone falls, compassion helps you to say, ” Stand up. You can do it.” Compassion comes from respect, and is the result of knowing that others are strong enough and intelligent enough to make their own choices.” don Miguel Ruiz

Practice Compassion: Share a bloom - one petal at a time...

Sit down for a while… Put your feet up and sit back for a moment. Who told you to listen to the sirens and their silly calls? Who asked you to take the longer road and pay those extra tolls?  The stress is turning you into a mess so stop and please … rest.

When we take on a new project or set new goals
, our old tapes and habits battle to pull us back  from our goals. Those  critical voices  yearn for dark places where light dare not go. We take a step and those forces fight back. Believe me, ignore them and just have some fun…

We look around us and try to engage with people and places that are really a/in pain. We fret and we fuss as we struggle for small gains. Instead of fussing and fighting for things we can’t change, let’s share our compassion and  soon, real soon, wellness will surely call our name…

On any given day, we do have the choice to embrace our wellness; let’s take a wellness walk this week for the sake of self love. Be compassionate as we enter a new week, and show some love… to ourselves and others. Relax and Breathe… We can do it!

“There is nothing that wastes the body like worry, and one who has any faith in God should be ashamed to worry about anything whatsoever.” Mahatma Gandhi
“Be the change you want to see in the world.” Mahatma Gandhi

Campassion Rests: Gandhi Memorial spot...

Honoring the compassionate spirit and grace of Mahatma Gandhi –  Today is the anniversary of his death (2 October 1869 – 30 January 1948 ) read Rajiv of Krazy Memoirs‘s beautiful tribute.

Be Blessed!

How are you practicing wellness in your life? What might you do differently this week?

Compassion…can we teach it? I don’t know. Can we bottle it? I wish we could. Does the world need it? Yes it does, in every corner and behind every door. And perhaps that is the key ingredient missing in the hearts of those who do wrong.
Thank you for remembering the great and compassionate Gandhi. 🙂

I hear you… I am looking at it from the point of having compassion for ourselves first. I think when people are so hard on themselves it doesn’t make it any easier to be nice to people. It’s that resentment thing you know. 🙁
I think we can walk away from toxic, unresponsive people and still see their humanity because we value ourselves… yeah, the world needs more of it. 😉

if you are willing to suffer too long, making no rebellion, the mistreating of women continues in INDIA. sometimes we need anger to change societies… Gandhi preached to stay calm. nothing moves in INDI says rita banerji. especially there is no real women’s liberation.

    • 31/01/2011 4:39 am

Women are mistreated everywhere … less so in some countries. But the interesting thing is that India has had a woman Prime Minister and a President and women do exert authority there… Poverty is the greater problem for many.
Meanwhile many western nations have never had a female president… right? 🙂

opposite to the method of Gandhi is to use rage and thinking consequently – with peaceful results nevertheless: compare my article RAGE
    http://flickrcomments.wordpress.com/2011/01/26/rage/
about the peaceful reunification of East and West Germany.

    • 31/01/2011 4:41 am

Rule by rage never helps anyone… I prefer a benevolent dictator to a self righteous tyrant. They are both manipulative but you get my point. 🙂 I love your collection of unique photos and more 🙂

thank for the reminder to Gandhi – honoring the compassionate spirit and grace of Mahatma Gandhi – Today is the anniversary of his death (2 October 1869 – 30 January 1948 )…
    P.S.:
the female journalist and political activist rita banerji, calcutta, believes, that Gandhi is the reason, why in INDIA there are not enough political changes…

    • 31/01/2011 3:41 am

I really don’t know why Rita feels that way. I will go check it out and think about it. Yeah, the world needs more compassionate people and we all need more compassion for ourselves. 🙂

Wow. That was beautiful . Checking back on blogs now. I’ve been really busy so I couldn’t catch up with the posts, now that I do, I feel better 🙂

We need to show compassion to ourselves first, so that we can then show it to others. We need more Ghandi’s in this world we live in – such a great man in so many ways. I love his “Be the change you want to see in the world” quote.
    It all starts with us.

Elizabeth, I agree! We must first learn to be compassionate with ourselves. Then the good habit can spread!

I believe being compassionate begins with acceptance of who we/others are as individuals. After acceptance we can begin to love one another as God loves each us, unconditionally. We can experience JOY when we focus on the needs of someone other than ourselves.
    God’s grace,

Call it a premonition, but I’ve felt a shift lately toward, perhaps, a more compassionate universe. We are long overdue, and with the help of social networking truly bringing us into one world I think we can soon be the change.
    Another great post, Thanks Elizabeth!

  13. 31/01/2011 11:38 am

Wonderful post and we do need to be reminded to be compassionate toward ourselves. You are right – how can we be compassionate to others if we aren’t to ourselves first. Thanks for a great reminder!

So much unwellness, so little compassion and what a timely post.
The energy of late is of a heaviness in the air; strife and stress.
Compounded by loss of work, home, state and more – we need the freah air of grace coupled with compassion.
    Love this post!

Very nice post, Eliz…lovely picture of Gandhi’s Memorial.

a sense for compassion is maybe the reason, why we like female persons as political leaders or anchor”men” in TV-channels?

    • 01/02/2011 2:45 am

Could be… very interesting observation… what about anchor women? 🙂
